I see how the models easily align to Focused Notetaking as well as F2F SIs and I am excited to be a part of it both as a facilitator and a participant. Now, to see how my SI syllabus translates to what I have learned! One of the most important components of online facilitation is building effective relationships with participants. Additionally, it became clear to me that online facilitation just like F2F trainings can be fun, productive and engaging. As Staff Developer I should continue serving as a guide on the side and provide appropriate feedback and support so that participants can have the best learning experience that we can offer.

Even though I have taught online for many years, learning new information and being part of a new community of learners has expanded my knowledge. I was fascinated by the Salmon and "Start - Steer - Summarize" methods. I found that these processes really aligned with both Costa's Levels of Thinking and Bloom's Taxonomy It is important, in any learning environment, to start at a foundational level then move into higher levels of thinking. I saw this reflected in both of these models. To encourage deeper thinking and understanding, we see how important it is to start at a level all can understand. Then, with scaffolding and support, learners can move to deepen their understanding of content. Also, reflecting on the experience can add to their learning. Just like the models, in these two weeks, we started at a foundational level, then had increased rigor (and support). In this way, I felt the learning was deepened so we not only understood but will be able to apply this knowledge. Further, reading other's ideas within the discussion created an opportunity for validation (I am not alone in thinking this/feeling this), a sense of community (I can do this!) and an opportunity to learn new ideas that I had not thought of. I am confident that if participants will engage in online discussions they will learn.

My cognitive struggle came from trying to connect to prior knowledge (face-to-face, classroom learning). So my a-ha moment came from seeing the online curriculum as the lesson plan (content with instructional strategies) and the online facilitation as the execution of said lesson plan. It was also nice to know that so many of my colleagues and I had the same questions and concerns. I found a lot of clarity while review start- steer- summarize and I enjoyed enhancing my thinking concerning effective feedback and reflecting on my own personal experiences with receiving and providing feedback. I am excited because I bought the book Facilitating Online Learning - Effect Strategies for Moderators which I will be reading this weekend and throughout the rest of the month. I have to admit I still wish I could be a DXP participant before I am a facilitator but I have always felt prepared after being training by AVID and can say at least I have a little bit more of a vision of how things might work. Although still tons of questions which I am sure we will get lots of answers starting next week. This is sad because we all know that is where the learning occurs.  I appreciate this opportunity to exchange thoughts and ideas with peers and have learned so much from reading and interacting with others posts.  As I stated above, I especially liked the effective suggestions topics, because I truly want to hone my craft and guide students, not force them.  My second favorite part was the feedback suggestions.  Being specific and using relational capacity to really connect when giving feedback makes me feel l can really be helpful to learners who want to grow.  Thank you, once again, for a great training experience.

I often questioned my methodology, philosophy, and stance in regards to what I understood as the best practices and whether they would change as a result of an online platform.
