I'm an academic advisor and Communication instructor at Clark State Community College in Springfield, Ohio. I have had a couple of professions in my life, but I finally found the right place for me. I'm inspired every day by our students who are pursuing their dreams, and they've inspired me to pursue mine!

I have always considered myself a writer and have kept a journal since I was 16 years old. I don't write journals every day, but I write plenty throughout the year. They always serve to remind me that I've faced challenges before and have persevered.

I got my first master's degree (in journalism) from the University of Westminster in London. It was a year-long course that was more practical than theoretical, so I decided to pursue an American master's degree. I did work as a journalist for a while, but it wasn't the life I was searching for.

Film

I have a BFA in Motion Picture Production from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. This is a picture of a Steenbeck editor, which we used before digital editing. I was fortunate enough to be in film school when everything was still done on film. I finished editing my last film on an Avid, but until then, I spent many hours in a dark room with a monster such as this.

Television

I have been thinking about and critiquing television since I was quite young. Even when I studied film, I was more more interested in what was happening on television. I think it's an amazing art form, especially from a writing standpoint. You can't connect with characters during a two-hour film in the same way you can connect with them over 20+ episodes per season. My passion really is mostly broadcast television and the American family sitcom in all its forms.

I came to Dayton to go to Wright State University. I grew up in a small town, so Dayton was definitely the big city for me. I had a love/hate relationship with it for a long time. I plotted my escape after I got back from London and had a taste of proper city life. But finances and opportunity kept me here. And then I realized it was the place I belonged. Now I can't imagine living somewhere else. Sure, I would still like to travel and spend months elsewhere, but Dayton will always be my home.

Learning

My fiance is the musician in the family and is very talented. This Christmas instead of buying each other gifts, we bought a keyboard for ourselves (he made sure it was weighted like piano keys). So, I'm starting to learn how to play. I like to make up funny songs, and I sing about the mundane tasks I do. I figure it will be nice when I can perform and record some of my weirdness.
