What have you learned about encouraging the development of alphabet knowledge? Alphabet knowledge is one of the basis for reading. Some important concepts in alphabet knowledge is recognizing letters, letter-name knowledge, comparing and differentiating letter shapes, writing letters, and letter-sound knowledge. There are many activities and resources for teachers that are available to help the students and encourage them with alphabet knowledge. Some of my favorite activities that support the development are foam letter matching, reading a story book, picture walk and identifying what letter the picture begins with, finding the different letters in the classroom, or an alphabet song. Its always important to continue repeating and trying to incorporate the letter you just taught your students into another lesson to try to get them to remember what they just learned , which also helps the English Language Learners.

Diverse learners in the classroom environment (ch1)

What would you look for In the classroom that supports diverse learners?

Many teachers will find diverse learners in their classroom. It is important to modify in order for the students to strive in the classroom. Teachers should set rules and expectations that are consistently reminded throughout the day. The teacher should allow the students to contribute ideas to what they think the rules should be in the classroom to make a safe environment. The teacher and students can make a poster to set those rules into a poster. Visuals are good for learners. This strategy helps the students feel involved and help them remember those rules. It's a good idea to repeat those rules and expectations. It helps remind students their expectations during the lesson or what they are doing at the moment without any confusion.
