what type of relationship Frankenstein and Elizabeth have?

Victor says he loves Elizabeth. They have been sweethearts since childhood. However, when he leaves to the University of Ingolstadt and makes his monster, he totally cuts off contact with "the woman he loves." Of course, Victor also cuts off contact with the rest of his family and his best friend, Clerval. He loses so much contact that Elizabeth writes him, asking if he has found another love. This shows how self-absorbed and obsessed Frankenstein is. When he finally marries Elizabeth, he knows the monster has promised to be with him "on his wedding day" but he foolishly leaves her alone while he checks out the downstairs of their honeymoon lodge. Thus, he does not seem to be a very clever or thoughtful lover and Elizabeth is the one who suffers from his lack of total commitment.

The reason he gives is that the creation of a race of Creatures would be a disaster. He fears depravity. The parallel to God creating humanity suggests that it would lead to the destruction of the world. God let us loose on the world and depravity triumphed over honour, sin over goodness. Even when Victor does lose those closest to him, he remains responsible for the creature and must pursue and destroy him. Additionally, his fear of what the “she-monster” could become suggests that Victor acknowledges that science and reason cannot provide all the answers. Ours lives may exist within a deterministic system, but there is no means of predicting the pattern or rule our lives will follow, or a way to explain the ability of “sublime and magnificent scenes” to console and “remove” Victor’s grief. Human nature is not dictated by a single absolute fact, and the unpredictability of the potential “she-monster”, facing the unknown, is far more frightening than trying to destroy a known danger.
