This was a book that talked about a slave named Uncle Tom during the civil war and he talked about his experience. This was one of the books that sparked tension between the North and South and it created a lot of controversy because it very stereotypical towards black people. And Beatty was saying that why wouldn't you burn a book that criticizes and negatively portrays white people.
