1. There are going to be 4-5 passages; you will have 60 minutes to complete the task.
2. I would advise to spend 15 minutes per passage if there are 4 passages, and 12-13 minutes per passage if there are 5.
3. While reading the first time, close read with annotations and search for important phrases and shifts in tone, diction, purpose, etc.
4. Many questions will refer back to specific lines, so make sure to read the lines above and below the indicated in order to understand context.
5. Make sure to study rhetorical terms and identify as you read the passage.
6. PRACTICE! It is imperative to keep practicing, and albert.io is a great site to maintain progress of accuracy and time management.

1. Three essays in a row is a daunting task, but is definitely doable. However, you will need immense practice and self-rigor to improve.
2. The Bedford Reader has many good resources on types of literature and how to write the essays.
3. Looking at sample student essays are easy to find online by simply Googling "AP English language essay (whichever essay you want) (year)". Reading over student sample essays especially after writing your own to the same prompt is incredibly beneficial to identify strengths and weakness in your writing.
4. On the exam, you do not have to go in order of the essays that they give you. Write your best essay first, because it will most likely take you less time, and leave you with more time to write more difficult essays.

- Make sure to spend time organizing! Many people blow this part of as they think they can just dive right in, but it is important to plan your claim and evidence to make sure it is well supported.
- Manage your time. A good estimate for 2 body paragraphs would be 5-10 minutes planning, 5 minutes for an introduction, 10 minutes per body paragraph, and 5 minutes for a conclusion. This leaves some extra run over time or revision time.
SYNTHESIS:
1. Read over the seven documents carefully. Typically, they will be for, against, or neutral to the argument, so identify this for each document.
2. Once you feel you have a good idea of the documents, make a claim with the best support of the idea. Keep in mind this is not always your own personal view - the evidence provided to you may point more strongly in a direction opposite to your view, and that is okay! Take the position you feel you can argue the best.
RHETORICAL ANALYSIS:
1. Close read the introduction as there are usually many hints about the purpose here.
2. Next, close read the passage. If it is a speech, the audience is typically very important, so keep that in mind while writing about purpose.
3. Use power verbs! Ex: emphasize, highlight, conflicts, contrasts, underscores, delineates, develops, etc
ARUGMENT:
1. Read the prompt carefully and understand what it is asking. Once you do this, you can start to develop ideas for evidence. A good way is to use anecdotes to analyze the prompt, but examples, definition, prominent books, etc can also help to develop your argument.

You should relax and go to bed early.
- Come prepared to the exam room and bring multiple pens and pencils and erasers in case they break. In addition, a watch is helpful to keep pace.
- Do not stress! It is best to keep calm in this situation. You got this! Trust the process.
