The third part T or textual evidence comes after your example and is helpful because it is what ties your book to your essay, this part of metal and the M I would say aren't extremely helpful but, they are good for helping you to remember to put those parts in your essay but besides that I think they don't help much. the second to last part is the A or analysis which in my opinion is the most important part of metal and the most helpful to remember, because it is all of the reasoning behind your evidence and examples, it is also very good because it is what mainly backs up your main idea/ideas. the last part of the L or link, being completely honest I have never understood but is also a really good part of metal because it also links the book to the essay but, not in the same way that the T of metal does, the L mostly wraps up your developmental paragraph. L= Link: Go back to your Main Idea, almost repeat it, just finish the paragraph with some repetition. This is best when done very eloquently, because it's going to end the paragraph.

Using METAL in an essay allows organization, which is crucial for a well written piece. It gives you a stable platform to base your essay off of, which can allow more effort to go into the actual writing of the essay. Not only does it provide a platform to build off of, but also a fall back plan, in case you run out of time, or just can't get it done. If you find it hard to elaborate, you can use just the basics of METAL, and if you can phrase well, then you have a good essay. When writing in your textual evidence, it is key that you don't forget to write the page number/paragraph number for a web page, and to include the name of the author. Citing sources for your text or texts at the end is always important too to give full credit to the publisher and author of the book.
A = Analysis: The analysis is one of the most important parts of your METAL paragraph. It is where you will explain and convince the reader why your main idea is the best. It is the "what" and the "why" of your paragraph. Explain what happened in the quote and why the quote showed your main idea. The analysis supports your text evidence and main idea further.
L = Linking Statement: The final step after creating a central idea, giving context for a piece of evidence, providing the evidence, and analyzing it is the linking statement. This is where you will link back to your main idea. You conclude your METAL paragraph. This is not concluding your essay. It is just wrapping up your METAL paragraph by linking back to the main idea. This is the final part of your developmental paragraph.

METAL is important whether you are developing a report, proving a point in an argumentative essay, persuading others, and so on and so forth. METAL is a base for your developmental paragraphs. METAL makes sure that you don't confuse the reader with evidence that doesn't make sense. METAL also helps you to not just jump straight to textual evidence. Linking Statement; After providing two different pieces of text evidence, giving them context, and analyzing them, you need to relate them to one another, and then explain how they prove your main idea as a whole. Explain the basics of each piece of text evidence, how they prove the main idea, and explain why they work together to prove your point.

Using M.E.T.A.L. is helpful in an essay because it provides a framework to work off of. Using M.E.T.A.L. helps make sure that you don't miss anything important, because it explains exactly what you need to use to back up your point. You need your main idea and evidence, but you also need to provide context and analysis to your evidence, and explain why you think it proves your main idea to be true. If you explained the basic main idea, and jumped straight to your evidence, and left it at that, the audience would have no idea what to think. You popped a question, you threw evidence at them, and left them to figure out why that evidence is important and what it means for your main idea with absolutely no background knowledge to work from. I think using METAL is important because it helps you a lot when you are going to write normal paragraphs, or in your DPM. My Opinion: Metal is very helpful because it helps you organize your essay. Without Metal beginners would not know how to organize and set up there essay. Metal is mainly used for arguments and claims. You don't use it for stories. It is very important to use a metal format in a argument or claim because you will sound unprofessional some what like a beginner making your argument weak and less people would want to listen it if it were just scrambled up. I think Metal is a good tool to use. For example it acts as a building, you forget or take away one layer or mix them up in a different order and the building will collapse just the same as your essay will. It sets a structure that helps keep your essay organized. A= Analysis. The analysis is where you proove how your quote connects to your main idea and why your idea or opinion is correct.
L= Link. The link connects the META together. This should go back to your main idea. If you used two peices of evidence from the text, then you should connect the two, showing how they are alike.

I think that METAL is good because it is like a roadmap for your paragraph. All the peices connect with each other if used correctly. The order of METAL also will make your paragraph move smoothly. Metal is important to me because it directs the essay to a particular idea that I am trying to prove. It focuses me on the skeleton of my paragraph. I make sure I put in my essays textual evidence that directly connects to my main idea and thesis.

T=Text Evidence: After you have explained the evidence you're about to give you to show your evidence. Typically in an essay you would use a quote from an article, book or person. The text evidence is basically your proof of what you're saying/ writing is true. When you write your quote it is important to include quotation marks and the page or paragraph number where you found it. By doing that you are in the correct format and allowing the reader, if he or she desires, the opportunity to look for your quote. You are also not copy writing it by doing that.
A= Analysis: After showing your evidence, it is your job to explain that evidence of why it's important to your main idea. You have to link it back to the beginning of the paragraph and explain in deeper meaning what your showing. By doing this you are not only expressing your thoughts in a clearer and better way but you are giving a stronger opinion on why your quote makes sense. Writing an analysis after every quote is very important because without it your quote would just be there without any real explanation of why it truly represents your idea. Especially if the quote is from a poem or olden day play. It would be very helpful to have someone break down the quote you gave.
L= Link: Finally after you have completed all the other requirements, it's your job to link it all together. The link should allow everything you have put on the page to make sense of each other and put something in the readers minds after they have finished reading. It should allow them to understand what they have read. Without a link you could end things kind of blankly and dull. It could also be confusing without a link and people could end up forgetting what your main goal for that paragraph was. So although it is the last, it is as equally important as all the other requirements.

My Opinion On Metal: I feel that METAL is a very useful tool in the beginning of learning how to properly write essays. When I was younger it really helped me a lot with understanding the format of what my DP paragraphs are supposed to have. But as I grew up I realized that all it's really doing is giving you a reminder of what needs to be included and where. But as you get older it's important to know that you can be flexible with these things. All you have to do is meet the requirements but you can bend them to your own liking all you want. Though I do believe that METAL is a very important English tool that all people learning to write should learn. No, scratch that. Everyone should learn it. Because even if you think you don't need it, just having something there can be reassuring if you need a refresher. I always make sure to include everything in METAL in my essays but also try if I can to add a little bit more, spice if you will to the pot of words. I try to make what I write interesting for me, the writer and for you, the reader. T- Textual Evidence- text evidence is a quote that supports the paragraphs main Idea. The evidence is usually from a book that the essay is about or it is from a trusted source. This trusted source is usually an expert on the subject or knows quite a lot about the subject.
A- Analysis- After the quote is the analysis. The analysis is extremely important because it shows how the quotes supports the main idea. without this you would have to infer how the quote is related to the M and that should not be the readers job.
L- Link- after you do the meta you need an end to it all to wrap it up. in the link you do what the name says you link it back to the M. This finishes off the essay and makes a final point before the next paragraph.

The analysis contains multiple reasons about different parts of the quote that help prove why the main idea of the DP supports the essay's thesis.
L - Linking statement: The linking statement is the last part of METAL, the L, and comes after the analysis. The linking statement is a link back to the main idea of the developmental paragraph.

METAL is helpful, because it allows someone to organize their essay into sections, making it a little bit easier to write and revise. METAL also helps someone remember what needs to be in their essay, and remember what the order of those things should be. Some other ways that I think about essays that help me write strong essays, are making sure that my analysis connects to and supports my textual evidence with reasons that link to my main idea, while not restating the quote for the entire analysis. The link is the final "mic drop" moment that ends your main idea and point your trying to prove with one last piece of evidence or point about your claim.

The main idea contains a reason to support your thesis or answer to a prompt.
E(example)- The example is where the writer provides the context to a quote. This can be in the form of what, where, when, and who. The purpose of example is to provide background knowledge to help the reader understand the quote by providing a context.
T(textual evidence)- Textual evidence is where the quote is put in which supports the main idea of the paragraph and the overarching point of your essay. Textual evidence can be used to support the claim being made. This can be out of a text, for example, a book.
A(analysis)- Analysis is where the writer puts their thoughts about why the whole point of the paragraph, text evidence, and essay matter. This is where the writer is able to elaborate into thought about why the quote chosen supports both the main idea of the paragraph and essay and why it is important.
L(link)- The link is used to wrap up the analysis and re-inform the main idea of the paragraph by connecting it back to your main idea and thesis statement.

METAL is a fairly easy format to help writers gather their thoughts in an organized way before writing an essay. It can often help writers progress their essays more fluently as well as providing a basic guideline for what an essay should contain. This helps writers make sure their essay is in order and helps them write their essays easier. Once becoming familiar with the graphic organizer, it helps the writer become more adjustable and flexible within how they write. This can be done when a writer is fully comfortable with METAL.
