         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1509, the the Spanish settled in the St. Bays area. The colonies received little attention from Spain. They were also suffering from frequent pirate attacks. These factors lead to the colonies' weakening. In 1655, the English attacked. The Spaniards would then surrender to the English. They freed their slaves (which would be called the Maroons), and fled.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The english focused on growing sugar, which could be easily sold in England. Most of the labor force was made up of enslaved africans. The slaves, being unhappy with this, would rebel. Many would run away and would join the Maroons. Several slave rebellions and Maroons having wars with the english, would eventually be a factor that would lead to the abolition of the slave trade. This Abolition bill would be passed in 1808z</div>]]></description>

         <title>Immediate post slavery</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Immediate post slavery days were hard on the lower class, the will of the masses was being ignored. A severe drought ruined most of the crops. The American civil war resulted in supplies being cut off from Jamaica. But after a 1565 rebellion, the old constitution was switched out for the Crown Colony system. After this, Jamaica saw improvement and development.</div>]]></description>
