First case: Not impacting functioning, happy with experience of voices, follows interests.

Second case: Impacting psychosocial functioning, withdrawing from friends (friends are worried), isolated, impacting school work and social aspects.

1st example does not appear to have negative symptoms, is not impacting on their life and functioning and if anything is having a positive impact on their life. Not withdrawing and still interacting in school and in interests.

Also only hearing faint voices which would be more in line with a psychotic like presentation, with autism could be it more of an inner voice which they do not understand?

Hearing things that are associated with Alex's interests - non-threatening or distressing.

First case: Voices not having an impact on quality of life or daily functioning, able to interact in school with peers, able to attend school, voices are not impacting mental health

Second case: Voices having a big impact on quality of life/daily functioning, not able to attend school, not able to function in social group

Alex is withdrawn.

Anxious.

Friends have commented on Alex's change of presentation/behaviour.

Critical/negative voice.

Impacting Alex's level of functioning.

In 2nd example is withdrawing from school and unable to function in daily living which others have noticed. Voices are more noticeable and is able to say more about them. Is paranoid and anxious and isolating from peers which would be more in line with psychosis.

Karen, Jess & Lauren

First case: Hearing faint voices, still engaging in daily life, Occasionally seeing a figure, friends/family not overly worried, spending time with friends, Autism, keen interests in certain subjects, performing well.

Second case: Complete opposite, paranoid, not functioning generally, friends and family are worried, starting to isolate and withdrawn, becoming distressed, voice of unidentified person.
