Normal working hours in the UK are 9-5 - which is a thirty five hour week excluding breaks.  I would say that many people people go to offices but are not very productive at all whilst still others work many extra hours of unpaid overtime. In my opinion, Covid has meant many changes to perceptions in recent times.

A considerable number of working people in Britain probably spend at least a couple of hours a day commuting by train or by car, even around the smaller cities.  Quite a lot of them travel huge distances to their workplaces in central London or the other major cities. I would say that, historically, Brits have set a lot of store by timekeeping.  They also tend to feel pressurised into keeping up the appearance of working long hours of overtime - however unproductive this can often be in actuality.
