Stamp Act

The Stamp Act was when national congress needed to raise money for their military. This act meant that every legal document including newspaper, cards and dice, needed a stamp on it. Many colonists were outraged by this act saw it as an attack on their local liberty and freedom in addition to being a strain on their economy. This created one of the famous sayings in history. "No taxation without representation." People expressed their feelings by protesting, riots and fierce debates. The stamp act was eventually repealed in 1766.
The reason why I chose the Hazard road sign is because the colonists did not want the stamp act since they were not represented in the decision making of passing the act which was a warning to the colonists of how their economy may change and a warning to future economic abuse.

The townshend acts was where Britain placed a tax on paper, lead, glass, paint and tea, and that each product had to be purchased from Great Britain and not from the colonists. The results of this act being passed just increased the tension and boycotts on British goods became prominent. The NY legislature was suspended and British troops were sent into Boston to control the people . This event eventually led to the Boston Massacre.
The road sign I chose to represent this event is the Road Narrows sign. Why is because the British were narrowing in on the colonists and started to limit their freedom and say in the government.

The Boston Massacre was where 5 colonists were killed and 6 were wounded by British soldiers. It began by 60 protesters yelling at British soldiers in the street. The protesters were throwing oyster shells, clubs, snowballs, etc. A group called the Sons of Liberty who supported boycotts and protests against the British used the Boston Massacre as propaganda to raise support and people involved in the war.
The road sign I chose to represent the Boston Massacre is the Construction Ahead sign. Why I chose this sign is because this was at first a bump in the road for the colonist but they were able to use this occurrence to benefit them. Just like construction how at first it is a mess and is torn down, but it is eventually rebuilt and improves the area.

The Declaration of Independence was when the colonists declared their independence from the British rule. Thomas Jefferson drafted the document which was heavily influence by enlightenment ideas of John Locke and his social contract theory where a government can only act if it is permissible by the people. Equal rights and all men are created equal were some of the main focal points in the document. It was signed by 56 congressional delegates with John Hancock as the largest signature. The road sign I chose to represent the Declaration of Independence is the Men at Work sign. Why I chose this sign is because the Declaration of Independence was a big statement for the colonists and steps into improving the colonies and securing there freedom. These men worked hard to be independent and ability to leave the tyrant rule.

The 1st continental congress was where 12 out of 13 colonies met together to form the 1st continental congress. Their main goal was to repeal the offensive and oppressive acts that were passed by the national congress. Led by John Adams they constructed the Declaration of Rights where they stated that if they were not to be represented in the government they should govern themselves. In addition to cease trade with Great Britain and also expanded the citizen military, called minute men.
The road sign I chose to represent the 1st continental congress is the Left Lane Ends because this was the colonists firsts steps to becoming independent and ending Great Britain's rule against them. Which is why I chose the Left Lane Ends sign because British rule was ending.

The 2nd continental congress was created to help declared for independence. This second continental congress created a second continental army and appointed George Washington as the head of the army. They then adopted a provisional government that incorporated every one of the 13 colonies. Delegate Richard Lee proposed the idea to dissolve all connections to Great Britain. Emphasized the idea of the governments power comes from the people and equality among men and the idea of republicanism. Under this congress they developed the Declaration of Independence.
The road sign I chose to represent for the second continental congress is the Guide sign. Why I chose the guide sign is because by creating the second continental congress it was guiding them in the steps to freedom and independence.

The coercive acts was where the British passes a series of acts in response to the Boston Tea Party. The acts included closing the Boston Harbor, revoked the Massachusetts charter, increased British control in the colonies, quartering act went into effect and limited the colonists rights and land by extending the Canadian border. Like before these actions enraged the colonists causing even more tension between the colonists and England.
The road sign I chose is the Dead End sign. Why is because the British were trying to pressure the colonists into following the rules they created without the colonists. The coercive acts were trying to make the colonists lose their will to rise up and revolt and to become submissive, but sadly that was not the end result.

The Quartering Acts was when the colonist had to provide a place to live in addition to providing supplies and food to soldiers stationed in the colonies. Many colonists were upset and this act passed only strengthen the colonial opposition.
The road sign I chose to represent this act is Do Not Enter. Why is because none of the colonists wanted the stationed soldiers to stay at their houses and also have to provide supplies for them. They were unwanted guests to the colonist hence the Do Not Enter sign.

The Boston Tea party was where 50 men, led by Samuel Adams dressed up as Native Americans and secretly boarded up onto a ship with 90,000 pounds of tea on board. The 50 men dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor. From that point on tea became a symbol of a badge of slavery. The Boston Tea Party was in retaliation to the Tea Act which was where the East India Company was given complete control of tea trading and the tax on tea.
The road sign I chose to represent this even is the No Passing Zone sign. Why is because the colonists wanted to send a message to England saying you can't control us and were tired of being taxed without any say. The No Passing Zone represents how the colonists would not the tea pass into their colonies and decided to dump it into the Boston Harbor.

The Battle of Trenton occurred in 1776 during December. General George Washington surprised the British by attacking them and by crossing the Delaware. This was a daring move by Washington and completely changed the tides of the war. The win gave them a stronger will to fight against the British.
The road sign I chose to represent the Battle at Trenton is the Detour sign. Why I chose this sign is because before the Battle of Trenton the war was pointing towards the British to win, but when colonists capture over 900 men, it was a detour and changed the colonists idea of the war and gave hope to continue fighting.

The Proclamation Line of 1763 stated that the colonist could not expand west of the Appalachian Mountains. This helped avoid another conflict with the Natives especially after the French and Indian War. 10,000 British soldiers were brought into the colonies to secure western boundaries for the colonists. Because of war it left England in great deal of debt.
The road sign I chose to represent the Proclamation Line of 1763 is the stop sign because of how the colonists were told to stop and could not go west of the Appalachian Mountains.

The Olive Branch Petition was the second continental congress final attempt to avoid war with Great Britain. The document was created to appease King George lll. The colonists hoped for reconciliation with Great Britain, but all hope was lost when the King refused to receive the Olive Branch Petition.
The road sign I chose to represent the Olive Branch Petition is the One-Way sign. Why I chose this sign is because even though the colonists made attempts to avoid war and loss of men, war was inevitable and the British made no attempts to stop it.
