The Hepatitis A vaccine targets Hepatitis A. Hepatitis A is a disease caused by a virus which can be spread by eating food or drinking water shared with a contaminated person. This disease targets the liver, a vital organ that processes food, fights infections, and filters the blood. Heavy alcohol use, toxins, some medications and certain medical conditions can also put someone at risk of Hepatitis A. This vaccine is important because those with the disease often don't know they have it, and so they spread the disease easily to others.

Hepatitis B is a disease caused by a virus, but can be prevented by a vaccine with the same name. It's an STD that is spread by bodily fluids, and targets the liver. The condition often clears up on its own, but getting the vaccine is important to preventing it.

Both of these diseases require 2 doses of the vaccine to be administered to children from 6 months apart for full protection. Children should get their first shot from 12-23 months of age.

Typhoid is a bacterial infection that can be prevented by taking two vaccines: Ty21a (oral) and Vi polysaccharide (parenteral). This infection can spread throughout the body, infecting many organs. It's normally caused by a bacterium, salmonella typhi, which is related to salmonella. This infection is spread through food, water, or close contact. Vaccines are recommended where this infection is most common. Without a vaccine to prevent this infection, those infected spread it to those that are in close contact with them. This vaccine requires a booster every two years.

Yellow fever is a viral infection spread by a species of mosquito most common in parts of Africa. The vaccine to prevent this disease is most commonly given 10 days before expected travel out of a country, but booster shots are recommended to people still at risk. The vaccine is important because it is a life long protection against the disease, which also prevents contamination to other regions.

Rabies is a fatal but preventable viral disease. This disease is spread by a bite from infected animals, such as bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes. The vaccine is important because once infected, there is no course of action that can help stop the infection when it is full force, which is almost always fatal. If contracted, the infected person should immediately get doses of the rabies vaccine, and should receive a booster after 3 years.
