In chapter 1, Nick moves to the East to become a bondsman and start a better life for himself, his parents agreed to finance him for 1 year so he can get up on his feet and start making money for himself. As Nick searches for a home he ends up in west egg, not a very impressive house as he is surrounded by mansions and all very high class people. He notices his neighbor with a huge mansion with many acres of land with beautiful landscaping and he later knows that the name of the man that owns it is Gatsby. As he is invited by daisy his cousin in west egg to dinner he drives there to be greeted by Tom bu Cannon witch is Daisy's husband and he talks about his land and Nick intently goes threw Tom and his how muscular and the high level of class he was and how he played football and was one of the best to play. As they walk in they are met by two ladies sitting on the couch Mrs. Baker and Daisy are very excited to see Nick because it has been a long time! As they begin to start dinner there are many talks about how white people need to stay strong to not let any race try to challenge white people. In the dinner there is a phone call for Tom and he gets up abruptly and answers in the kitchen as this is happening Daisy quickly follows. Mrs. Baker knows something Nick does not and that the person on the other line is that there “another girl” Tom sees in New York. After the call ends everyone is back at the table and they begin to finish their meal. After they are done Daisy and Nick go out to the front porch to talk and Daisy begins to talk about what she said when her daughter was born. She said that when she woke up after giving birth she asked if it was a boy or girl and the nurse said girl and then she began to say I hope she is a foolish young cute girl that knows “her place in this world”. I think when this conversation is going on she is trying to talk about the gender roles of this era and how woman need to stay home and look pretty for when the men come home from there jobs and you can relate this back to a day in our age were some people still have those ideals about women and they still should not be able to take care of themselves or have a job or even be able to vote! I think Daisy is different from most of the women in the 1920’s because I feel like she knows her worth and she is not afraid to stick up for herself which shocks Tom. As Tom and Daisy send Nick off from their night spent together Daisy speaks as Nick gets into his car and says i heard you got engaged and Nick blew it off. When Nick arrives at his come in to his house in West Egg he sees Gatsby standing on his Porch and he was about to introduce himself as saying he knows Mrs. Baker sees Gatsby almost tribbing from a distance and Gastby turns and looks at the water. Nick then goes into his house and is alone.
