As soon as they arrive and get picked up from the bus loop we all walk together. They know that before going to the playground they have to hang their backpacks on the backpack cart that is outside my classroom. As soon as they hang their backpack they are allowed to go play until I say "breakfast is ready". Once they hear that phrase they know it is time to stop and go straight to the classroom. They will sit while watching a short educational video for about 15 minutes.

When my students hear the timer beep, they know it is time to stop what they are doing and go to their designated square on the floor (I made the squares with tape). Once they are in their square, they put their hands on their head. I then say, “One, two, switch a roo!” but only when all students are in their spots. At that point, they are able to transition to the next group.
