Happiness is an emotional state characterized by feelings of joy, satisfaction, contentment, and fulfillment. It’s a state that people seek to find, yet its definition can vary from person to person. Generally, happiness involves positive emotions and life satisfaction. Psychologists often use the term “subjective well-being” to describe this emotional state, focusing on an individual’s overall feelings about their life in the present. Two key components of happiness are:

Balance of Emotions: Experiencing more positive feelings than negative ones.

Life Satisfaction: Feeling satisfied with different aspects of life, including relationships, work, and achievements.

Ancient philosopher Aristotle proposed four levels of happiness:

Immediate Gratification: Pleasure from instant rewards.

Comparison and Achievement: Happiness derived from comparing oneself to others or achieving goals.

Positive Contributions: Happiness through making positive impacts.

Fulfillment: Achieving a sense of purpose and balance.

Aristotle believed that finding a balance between deficiency and excess leads to happiness. So, perhaps happiness is like finding the right balance in a bunch of bananas—neither too green nor too ripe!

Definition of Disguast

Disgust is one of the six basic emotions shared by all people. It arises as a feeling of aversion towards something offensive, distasteful, or unpleasant. We can experience disgust through our physical senses (sight, smell, touch, sound, taste), by observing the actions or appearances of people, and even by encountering certain ideas¹².

Here are some key points about disgust:

- Characteristics: Disgust is often accompanied by a sensation of nausea and a strong desire to get away from the offensive object³.

- Triggers: The universal trigger for disgust is the feeling that something is offensive, poisonous, or contaminating. Common triggers include:

    - Expelled bodily products (such as feces, vomit, urine, mucus, and blood).

    - Certain foods (which can vary across cultures).

    - Rotting, diseased, or dying substances.

    - Perceived perversions or actions of other people.

- Development: Disgust begins to develop in children between the ages of four and eight. Before that, children experience distaste, which is the rejection of things that taste bad but not full-fledged disgust¹.

- Facial Expression: The most easily recognizable sign of disgust is the wrinkling of the nose¹.

In summary, disgust is a powerful emotion that helps us avoid harmful or unpleasant stimuli in our environment.

(1) What is Disgust? | Feeling Disgust | Paul Ekman Group. https://www.paulekman.com/universal-emotions/what-is-disgust/.

(2) Disgust - Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disgust.

(3) Disgust: Definition, Feelings & Expressions - The Berkeley Well-Being .... https://www.berkeleywellbeing.com/disgust.html.

(4) Definition of Disgust – Psychology of Human Emotion: An Open Access .... https://psu.pb.unizin.org/psych425/chapter/definition-of-disgust/.

Lolita

Authors can make straight-up misanthropy palatable through style and wit. I’ve never read a novel by Nabokov where every character wasn’t contemptible. The awfulness of Humbert Humbert may seduce you into thinking that Lolita is in the misguided-protagonist category I led with, but the novel’s really about the objectively detestable people and landscape of America. Since Humbert is so much more awful than everything he detests, it’s easy to overlook that there’s no evidence at all that the author disagrees with his observations.

"Lolita" is a novel by Vladimir Nabokov that explores themes of obsession, desire, and manipulation. It tells the story of a middle-aged literature professor named Humbert Humbert who becomes infatuated with a 12-year-old girl named Dolores Haze, whom he nicknames Lolita. The novel delves into Humbert's twisted relationship with Lolita as he narrates his obsessive love for her, despite the disturbing and morally reprehensible nature of their relationship. Nabokov's writing is renowned for its complex narrative structure and exploration of controversial themes.

Sadness is an emotional pain associated with, or characterized by, feelings of disadvantage, loss, despair, grief, helplessness, disappointment and sorrow. An individual experiencing sadness may become quiet or lethargic, and withdraw themselves from others. An example of severe sadness is depression, a mood which can be brought on by major depressive disorder or persistent depressive disorder. Crying can be an indication of sadness.

Sadness is one of the six basic emotions described by Paul Ekman, along with happiness, anger, surprise, fear, and disgust

Source : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadness

Anger, also known as wrath or rage, is an intense emotional state involving a strong uncomfortable and non-cooperative response to a perceived provocation, hurt, or threat. A person experiencing anger will often experience physical effects, such as increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and increased levels of adrenaline and noradrenaline. Some view anger as an emotion which triggers part of the fight or flight response. Anger becomes the predominant feeling behaviorally, cognitively, and physiologically when a person makes the conscious choice to take action to immediately stop the threatening behavior of another outside force.

"The Hydra's Tale: Imagining Disgust" is a book that looks at why we find things gross and how that affects us. It explores how disgust shapes our thoughts, actions, and the stories we tell. The book dives into topics like why we feel disgusted, how it varies across cultures, and how it shows up in art and literature. Essentially, it's about understanding the icky feeling we get and what it means for us as humans.

This rape or sexual assault is one of those unforgivable crimes that invoked true Raudra Rasa as much in the mind of the artist Avantika Sharma as many others. If there was a thought that came to her mind about expressing the extreme aggression of Raudra rasa, it was Nirbhaya, the victim of this horrible act.

An examples of anger in literature

1)Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

In Bradbury’s classic, books are outlawed and burned whenever found—the logical extreme, no doubt, of the bizarre new American anti-intellectualism—not to mention a president who doesn’t read. But in the end, like the phoenix, even the destroyed city will be reborn. Also, this: “Don’t ask for guarantees. And don’t look to be saved in any one thing, person, machine, or library. Do your own bit of saving, and if you drown, at least die knowing you were heading for shore.”

2)George Orwell, 1984

As our dependence on technology deepens, Orwell’s classic novel of the surveillance state only gets more and more relevant. But with Trump, so too does the notion of doublethink: “To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again, and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself—that was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed.” Sound like anyone we know?

An examples of anger in music

1) example of anger in a sacred work is the motet In furore iustissimae irae by Vivaldi. (In wrath and most just anger) Every soprano on earth wants to sing it - well, those who like Vivaldi - except it requires a particular voice type, virtuoso technique, and a thorough knowledge of Baroque vocal style to do it justice.

The voice needs an element of steeliness if it’s not to be too sweet to be furore, and the motet begins with a florid da capo aria A-B-A where, at the return of A, the soloist is expected to improvise further embellishments that make the music even angrier! This doesn’t need the subtlety of ‘less is more’ but a very confident ‘more is more’, like a Baroque take on Hekla where ornaments furiously erupt into the air as flying lava. Otherwise it’s ‘whatever’. Understandably some performances end up sounding a little too studied, cautious, and/or tame.
2)Shostakovich Symphony No. 10, 2nd movement This has been called 4 minutes of rage, but seems timid to me.

In the next case, Vaughan Williams who is associated with pastoral music got so livid about the rise of totalitarianism in Europe in the thirties that he wrote this little ditty. Once when asked about this symphony, he remarked,”I don't know whether I like it, but it's what I meant." I don’t know if this is angry enough though.

Examples of anger in movies

https://www.google.com/search?q=examples+of+anger+in+moveis&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-ge&client=safari#

In our opinion, Fear is a feeling we get when we're scared or worried about something. It's like a warning signal in our bodies that tells us to be careful because there might be danger nearby. Imagine you're in a dark room and you hear a strange noise; your heart might start racing, your palms might get sweaty, and you might feel like you want to run away. That's fear!

Fear can be caused by lots of different things. Sometimes it's because we're facing something new or unfamiliar, like starting at a new school or meeting new people. Other times, it's because we're in a situation that seems dangerous, like being near a barking dog or hearing thunder during a storm. But even though fear can be scary, it's also really important. It helps us stay safe by making us aware of potential dangers. For example, if you're afraid of touching something hot, your fear helps you avoid getting burned.

Overall, fear is a natural and normal emotion that everyone feels from time to time. It's our body's way of keeping us alert and protected in the face of possible threats.

Maybe, one of the best ways to defend fear is to be confident.

Mariam Tordinava

The Definition Of Happiness:

Happiness is a multifaceted state of being characterized by contentment, joy, and satisfaction. It’s not merely the absence of sadness or stress but rather a deep sense of fulfillment and well-being. It can be found in simple pleasures, meaningful connections, and personal accomplishments. Happiness is subjective, varying from person to person, and can be influenced by external factors such as relationships, career success, and health, as well as internal factors like mindset and resilience. Ultimately, happiness is about experiencing a sense of harmony and purpose in one’s life.

A Famous Quote About Happiness:

"Even if happiness forgets you a little bit, never completely forget about it." - Jaques Prevert

Happiness In Literature:

The Happiness Hypothesis: Finding Modern Truth in Ancient Wisdom is a 2006 book written by American social psychologist Jonathan Haidt. In it, Haidt poses several "Great Ideas" on happiness espoused by thinkers of the past—such as Plato, Buddha and Jesus—and examines them in the light of contemporary psychological research, extracting from them any lessons that still apply to our modern lives. Central to the book are the concepts of virtue, happiness, fulfillment, and meaning.

Happiness In Art:

Le bonheur de vivre (The Joy of Life) is a painting by Henri Matisse. The film stars the voices of Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Richard Kind, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, Kaitlyn Dias, Diane Lane, and Kyle MacLachlan. Inside Out follows the inner workings of the mind of Riley, a young girl who adapts to her family's relocation as five personified emotions administer her thoughts and actions.

Happiness In History

We chose to tell a little bit about reformation as it had positive effects in the past.

Reform refers to the improvement or amendment of what is wrong, corrupt, unsatisfactory, etc. The modern usage of the word emerged in the late 18th century and is believed to have originated from Christopher Wyvill's Association movement, which identified “Parliamentary Reform” as its primary aim.

Pixar’s Oscar-winning animation spends much of its running time attempting to restore happiness to its young protagonist, Riley (voiced by Kaitlyn Dias), whose head we inhabit along with five animated emotions: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust. After Riley moves to San Francisco with her family – a place where they put broccoli on pizza – her core memories and ‘personality islands’ are disrupted and in danger of being destroyed, and Joy (Amy Poehler) fears that Sadness’s (Phyllis Smith) influence is taking over with disastrous results.

Directed by Up’s Pete Docter, who consulted extensively with psychologists around how human emotions affect interpersonal relations, Inside Out is a bold, intelligent film that visualises the inner workings of the human mind. In particular, the film depicts the fading and changing of memories as circumstances alter, the recognition that sorrow has as valuable a part to play in our lives as joy, and the complexity that sees conflicting emotions co-exist within us simultaneously. What confusing beings we are; our happiness relies on such a convoluted mix of feelings.

During the conquest of Istanbul, Fatih Sultan Mehmet employed a remarkably creative strategy to transport his ships over land. Facing the challenge of navigating past the defenses controlled by the Genoese and Venetians who were protecting the city, Mehmet found himself in a difficult situation.Mehmet Han convened with engineers and sailors to devise a way to transport his ships over land. Eventually, they decided to construct a pathway over which the ships could be dragged. This pathway needed to be wide and sturdy enough to facilitate the movement of the ships over land.Under the orders of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, thousands of people worked tirelessly to drag the ships over land. Large planks, tree trunks, and thick ropes were utilized to move the ships. With determined effort, the ships were slowly dragged over land and eventually reached the sea once again. This extraordinary engineering feat became a pivotal moment in the conquest of Istanbul, immortalizing Fatih Sultan Mehmet's resolve and leadership in history. It stands as an example of overcoming obstacles with strategic thinking and determination.

Song "Hurt" by Johnny Cash, originally written by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails is an example of sadness in music. Cash's haunting rendition, released in 2002, reflects on a life filled with regret, loss, and the inevitability of mortality. The raw emotion in Cash's voice and the stripped-down arrangement evoke a profound sense of melancholy, making "Hurt" a powerful exploration of sadness in music.

It is a transient state, a fleeting visitor that knocks on our hearts and then departs, leaving behind traces of its melancholic touch. The Essence of Sadness
Sadness is not merely a feeling; it’s an emotional landscape where shadows dance with memories. When life disappoints us, when dreams shatter like fragile glass, sadness emerges. It’s the ache of unmet expectations, the weight of unspoken words, and the echo of what once was.The Purpose of Sadness Despite its perceived negativity, sadness serves a purpose. It is not merely a void; it is a vessel. Like rainwater nourishing parched earth, sadness allows us to process grief, disappointment, and heartache. It cleanses our emotional palette, preparing us for the hues of joy that will eventually return.

At one meeting, Hazel meets a 17-year-old boy currently in remission named Augustus Waters, whose osteosarcoma caused him to lose his right leg. Augustus is at the meeting to support Isaac, his friend who has eye cancer. Hazel and Augustus strike a bond immediately and agree to read each other's favorite novels. Augustus gives Hazel The Price of Dawn, and Hazel recommends An Imperial Affliction, a novel about a cancer-stricken girl named Anna that parallels Hazel's own experience. After Augustus finishes reading her book, he is frustrated upon learning that the novel ends abruptly without a conclusion, as if Anna had died suddenly. Hazel explains the novel's author, Peter van Houten, retreated to Amsterdam following the novel's publication and has not been heard from since.

It is a complex emotion that can be both protective and paralyzing, serving as a warning signal for danger while also potentially hindering personal growth and exploration1.
The Biological Basis of Fear Fear is fundamentally rooted in our biology. It is an innate emotional response to perceived threats, wired into our brains as a survival mechanism. When we sense danger, fear alerts us and prepares our bodies to react. This physiological response includes the release of adrenaline and cortisol, increasing heart rate, blood pressure, and glucose levels.

Robert Khachatryan

Happines is a positive and pleasant emotion, ranging from contentment to intense joy. Moments of happiness may be triggered by positive life experiences or thoughts, but sometimes it may arise from no obvious cause. The level of happiness for longer periods of time is more strongly correlated with levels of life satisfaction, subjective well-being, flourishing and eudaimonia. In common usage, the word happy can be an appraisal of those measures themselves or as a shorthand for a "source" of happiness (for example, "find happiness in life" as in finding the meaning in life). As with any emotion, the precise definition of happiness has been a perennial debate in philosophy
