It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed.” Guy Montag was happy on the outside. He enjoyed burning books for a living. However, deep within, Montag really wasn't happy.

Montag really changed throughout the story because his views on books and society in general had changed. Instead of just going along with everyone else he learned to be himself and to do what he feels is right. He learned all this and went from burning knowledge to preserving it.
