First and foremost, the "coming-of- age stories" refers to the passage from childhood to adulthood in a story (movie, novel or tv show). The transition can be difficult for some children to leave their childhood behind them. It comes with a lot of responsibilities, problems and questioning but for others it can be a positive change indeed it can bring them freedom, maturity, etc. It's an experience that is unique to each person. Everyone goes through it, it's the key to the access of adulthood.
As a matter of fact, nobody leaves rhis transition the same way, for some people like Jane Eyre it allows to be free if you don't live in a healthy family environment. But for people like Wendy Darling it can be scary knowing all the responsabilities it's going to bring. 
To conclude each character show us how going through the "coming-of-age" can be lived differntly based on your family, firends, etc...
