what makes a successful student in my perspective?

100% Attendance

Before talking about any other things, attendance always comes the first. This is the first step to be successful student. Attending every class will make me catch up with process of lesson and class work such as assignment. Additionally, it gives opportunities to get curious and ask questions to lecturer. I also can have communication with friends and teachers.

Actively participating in class

Even though I attend all classes it will be waste of time if I do not get anything from the lesson. Being active in class, for instance, answering questions of lecturer, rising hand and asking questions, would led me to be a successful student.

Being efficient (time management)

Time is limited. Some people do not get this simple phrase. To be a successful student, managing time is essential part. So, how to be efficient? The first step is know how much time I normally spend on assignment, self-study and etc. After this, general plans should be built for week. General plan will include which date I will study chemistry, biology and chemistry. Since I live alone, I should also choose when to have my glossary shopping as well. With general plan, I could modify it accordingly.

Health

Being a successful student doesn't always mean academic success. Staying health will eventually increase the possibility of becoming successful students. I should not spend too much time in my room studying, but I should have regular exercise, participate college events and keep in touch with new friends. This means that I should frequently go out and get fresh air to stay mentally and physically healthy.

Friendship

As I said, successful student it not always about academics. I socialise enough with my friends hanging out and eat out. I try to meet as many people as I can, so I become a student leader and I got plenty of precious friends.

First time I checked my timetable, I was confused. This is because I did not expect to have biology revision. I thought I was doing great with my biology.

The first time I went to biology revision on Monday, Miss Wren mentioned that this sessions for late arrival students. This made me even more confused. This lead me to ask Miss Wren why I am in the biology revision sessions. She commented that perhaps I did not good on the baseline test, but I told her I have got 90%. She advised me that you might ask Mr.Okan why I am in the Biology revision because she didn't have the list of students. She said that I could leave if I think this class is unnecessary. However, I did not. Since I have been voluntarily attended biology support class, so I thought it is good opportunity to have biology class from other lecturer.

It was super helpful after all. She taught us how exam questions are going to be and listed down only things we should study.

As a result of my efforts, it has improved to the point where I can talk to someone I have never met casually without awareness. I personally count this as a big improvement. However, as I improved my skills, I realised that communication sometimes needs a break between friends and someone I meet quite frequently. As a pharmacist, we can start a conversation with basic and medical questions.

Leadership

What I always struggled with being a student leader was negotiation. I know a good leader is a good listener, so I always try to listen and understand. then, I always try to make a difference, but sometimes things don't always work out well due to the technical issue. This made me think about negotiation and even a flexible mindset. I personally think that the basic skills of the leader should be responsibility, team-building and confidence. To be a better leader, however, they should build up negotiation skills, decision-making and a flexible mindset to come up with the middle point to persuade most people.

On the other hand, they might say the leader can accept opinions from others to make better decisions. I agree with this. However, not every circumstance can have other's opinions. we can gather opinions, but it is a leader who decides the final decision at the end. For example, when the leader is in formal meetings with someone higher than them, they need to make their own decision in the meeting.

Furthermore, I sometimes have to admit that leaders cannot always solve every single problem.

Since I am currently a student leader, I try to listen to students complains and feedback

I had a meeting with the university staff. it was the first big and formal meeting in my life. there was extra pressure as well because the first huge meeting in my life was in English which is my second language. I was a bit nervous even though I was just sitting there. It was interesting to attend the meeting. I learned how the UK-style meeting happens. I also picked up some useful phrases to use in the meeting or formal environment. They asked one question about why students don't like learning support. Batuhan, another student leader, answered. perhaps, the answer was not enough. Tanay, who is the head of LACSA and learning support classes, commended that it is because most countries do not focus on how to be a good citizen, kind, etc. Students are not used to the UK culture. However, I personally think that is not the major reason. To be honest,

Success Vs Happiness

I think happiness comes first. As the term success can be relative, the definition of success can be varied. For example, some people might think waking up at the time they want to can be successful for them. However, others might think it is too small a thing to be considered successful or not. The difference between them, in my opinion, is the level of happiness and positive thinking.
