The direct method develops some skills to a greater extent than others, for example; when the teacher dictates the class entirely in English the student develops better listening skills and by not allowing the student to speak in his native language, but only in the target language he will be more fluent in speaking, however; the other two skills, reading and writing, are left at a lower level since this method focuses on the student being proficient in oral communication.
How can we improve this?
Activities such as audio books can be adapted to the class, that is, the student would be listening and at the same time following the reading of the book proposed for the class and on the other hand, collaborative activities, such as grouping 5 students, giving them a grammatical topic to study and present it to the class, in this way the grammar part would not be left behind and also they are relating to the oral part.

The direct method has the disadvantage that it focuses only on the students' speech, regardless of their level, style, and pace of learning, that is, being a method that focuses only on oral skills may run the risk that some students get lost every time the teacher explains or may even have feelings of frustration for not understanding.

However, this can be corrected within the classroom by organizing the students together, that is, 2 students per desk, where one student is more proficient in the language and one student needs reinforcement, so that they can do the activities with each other; An activity using this strategy would be a dramatization within the classroom, where one character will be a clothing salesman in a mall and the other student will be the buyer of a set of sportswear, this is where the teacher can help them with pronunciation and intonation of the dialogue, in addition to practicing all the skills but putting as the main speaking (conversation).

It is well known that direct method is beneficial for students when they are exclusively learning a second language for communicative skills naturally through listening and speaking. Consequently, learners get accustomed to not being stimulated in using a well-structured grammar in their communication owing to an inadequate order of messages which are meaningless and incomprehensible.

How can we put an end to it through an activity?

To make students not to feel irritated by this issue, teachers must make learners engaged in their own progress by buying grammar books where teachers ask them to write at least ten sentences per day, besides, they will have to exhibit their sentences to the whole class. As a result, learners will have enhanced their reading and writing skills as a supplement.
