In my opinion lesson study provides a
platform for collaboration and learning among lecturers. For example, common
terminologies or concepts taught by different lecturers could be conveyed more
consistently throughout the student cohort. Having another lecturer to observe
a live lesson could be helpful to capture students’ feedback which otherwise
could be missed by the main lecturer, who is concerned about the delivery of
content.

Lesson study could be carried out if timetabling
set aside time for lecturers to collaborate and probably carry out the study in
modules with smaller group size to test the effect.

Lesson study allows lecturers pool their experiences to accelerate the improvement to their teaching as a group. For example, lecturers observing can extract the workable portions of the lesson and implement it on their own lesson. At the same time, they can reflect on the portions that require improvements and brainstorm on a better way to conduct the lesson. The lecturer being observe can also receive immediately feedback after the lesson and tune their lessons accordingly during the term as compared to receiving the students' grades at the end of semester as a feedback to their teaching.

Videos of lessons can be taken to conduct lesson studies in SP. With this method, even the lecturer delivering the lesson can observe how he/she had conducted the class. Even so, some lecturers may feel uncomfortable about their lessons being recorded. So for lesson studies with video recording to be conducted effectively, it should be done with an open mind and with a sole purpose of improvement to teaching.

Lesson Studies helps teachers organise their lessons and content to streamline and simplify their classes into easily digestible chunks. It helps reduce oversights and with the combined pairs of eyes and collated knowledge, the quality of each lesson goes up further than the sum of each part.

Constantly questioning your own performance amongst your peers helps refine the teaching technique too - especially with the opportunity to practice your delivery.

Currently, one way of doing it in SP can be during classes - fellow lecturers attending/assisting can take notes and analyse the class, then give feedback at the end of each class/lecture.

Lesson Study enables the teacher to gain feedback on their teaching through their team members. It allows to teacher to reflect on their teaching methods, and also team members help to observe the student's response in a class of many students, while the teacher is only one person. More data is collected, shared, and discussed on ways to continually improve, but over a long period of time.

Lesson studies can be done using video recordings, or by lecturers sitting in for observation at a module level.

The Lesson Study involves teachers collaborating to formulate lessons and through a cycle of observations and feedback, refine the lesson for a better outcome. This helps the teachers assess the effectiveness of the teaching methods, as well as identify 'blind spots' that the teacher conducting the lesson might otherwise not be aware of. It is beneficial due to the reflective nature of the process.

In SP, it can be conducted by the teachers within the same module coming together to review the lesson. It would be more effective to identity a specific scope or lesson topic to analyse, followed by actual in-class lesson observations through documentation while one teacher is conducting the lesson.

Lesson Study has traditionally been one of the professional development processes used to encourage teachers to work together in teams to become more effective teachers.
The effective teacher is one who is committed to constantly improving on and developing his or her teaching practices. This process is enhanced when there are opportunities to collaborate with like-minded counterparts and also to observe and reflect.
The effective and practical method to implement lesson study in SP is that colleagues of lecturers would be periodically invited to own's class, then give feedback by the formal format of check lists.
Additionally, it would be better to take videos of one method of feedback.

Lesson Study allows a teacher to get a critical review of one's teaching methodology. This allows the teacher to reflect upon the comments made and assist him in improving his method of educating students.

Another dimension of Lesson Study is that it encourages teachers to connect pool and share ideas in being effective teachers.

Currently the DArch course, has module coordinators for the individual years. To implement Lesson Study, these steps could be taken:

1. Module coordinators and lecturers should come together to develop or improve upon the current teaching materials and methods.

2. The new teaching materials and methods are implemented in class. Senior teaching staff and module coordinators who are knowledgeable in the area of study are invited to provided feedback.

3. The feedback collated, analysed and discussed.

4. Practical improvements are then made to the module materials and methods.

5. Periodically, step 2 - 4 is repeated.
