When the boy is singing, the voice is high pitched, portraying the youth voice of the boy. When the man is singing, a low voice is heard, portraying the deep voice of the man. The Elfking's voice is high pitched, referencing the idea of trying to appear sweet and persuasive. An example of this is at bar 37, where the father says "Mein Sohn, was bright du so bang din Geshict?" At this bar, we can see a voice in a low pitch compared to the boy. An example of the boy singing high is from bar 123 where the boy says, "Mein Vater, Mein Vater", portraying the youthful voice of the boy. The horse is reflected throughout the music through the use of the triplets heard throughout the liede.
