I was lucky enough to work with Mr. Alston for 6 years. He was kind, supportive, patient, funny, joyous, tough, and faithful. Jeff made an effort to get to know every student. He wanted them to know that he trusted them and that they could do anything. It was nice that he did the same thing for me. He believed in me and encouraged me to be positive at times when I had doubts. I learned so much from him about how to fix things, how to be a teacher, and maybe even how to be an ok person. Mr. Alston was so much a part of the fabric of Campos and his spirit has carried so many young people into a prosperous and hopeful future. I hope that they know how much he believed in them. I hope that they know that he always came back to work with them because he loved Campos. We are greater because of what he did for us, but we are poorer without his presence, his faith, his hope and his wonderful laugh. We will forge on, remembering his lessons, holding fast to our Campos family, and telling stories about our friend who believed in us. Thanks a lot Mr. Alston

i worked with Jeff for 10 years... he was a gentle giant and a gentleman. When i started at Campos we were both deans... we were colleagues and we became friends. I stopped by his room to talk almost every day i worked at Campos.. for those ten years. We would talk about all of the crazy changes in our school.. all of the crazy kids... all of the crazy administrators... but mostly we would talk sports... we were both fans of the Dallas Cowboys and we would always talk about how “we’d get em next year”. You didn’t need a rubric from the department of education to know Alston was a good teacher... you could see it when he was absent... when Alston was out we would have to pay close attention to his room because the kids didn’t listen to anybody quite the same way they’d listen to him. The kids would act out because they were lost without him... and that’s kind of how it feels now... He made the world a better place... and we’re all a little lost without him. I’ll miss you “my man” Alston..

Jeffrey was a big teddy bear, a gentle giant. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved his students and was an awesome colleague. His love for 🤬 was ever present, he was a man of 🤬 and I am confident that he is in a better place. He will be missed. Rest easy Alston, thank you for all you did for 71

In those fourteen years, I only saw Jeff get angry once. It just wasn't in his nature to be mad. No matter what came Jeff's way, he knew how to roll with it. He always seemed to see things for what they were and rose above pettiness. He was unflappable. You could count on Jeff to be a calm presence no matter the pressure or circumstance. That quality is certainly one of the many things that I will miss about Jeff.
He was also a great confidant. You knew that you could share anything with Jeff and that's where it stayed. He didn't gossip or get caught up in work place politics, because he was better than that.
Jeff was a role model to many. I know that there are a large number of students who are forever changed because of the impact he had in their lives. Whether he introduced them to technology, corrected their behavior, helped them believe in themselves, leant a sympathetic ear, gave them encouragement, served as an inspiration or took the time to care---he will always be remembered by those students and he will always be remembered by his Campos family.

K. Miller

When I started teaching fourteen odd years ago, Jeff--a dean at the time--was a constant fixture, aid and confidant in my class. He helped to give me a foundation to try and understand what was happening in my class. Over the years our relationship grew and I became a trough colleague and often times co-conspirator. Jeff had a wonderful sense of humor, great taste in music and immeasurably loved his job and most important, his students. He was quick to lend an ear and often chose not to give advice but to guide you to your decisions. He was a man that lived by scripture and his sense of being came from his faith. I have witnessed first hand his affect on students and the familial love they held for him: anger, resent, then acceptance and adoration.I am a better teacher and man for having known Jeff and his best quality, his ability to just let you know he was there and he was listening and somehow you knew he cared, remains. You're gone, not forgotten. You're still here. Your presence remains.

For as long as I can remember working at 71 (since I was 26) this man has been a pool of peace in the chaos of what we call our professional lives. Peaceful and steady, Alston was always the rational, calm, sarcastic, witty and downright loving voice of reason. Even when he had every right to be ruffled- He was unflappable. He gave children a sense of calm and peace, and I’m not sure what more you can ask of than that, when some have NEVER known that. He was THAT. You can’t put a price on that. Know that you are loved and remembered so fondly in your life, what you contributed to this world was more than you’ll ever know Jeff. You will be remembered fondly and lovingly above all. A highly effective teacher if there ever was one. ..

Then I had him again in my junior year. He has seen me grown into the young woman I am today. Alston would always be in the hallways telling students to go to class and always making jokes with everyone. He also would always check up on me and had high hopes for me. He would give me advice on dreaming bigger. He was such a great person inside and out and it’s super sad to hear that such a good soul would no longer be with us.

Love, Arisleidy

Is everything working?"
I'm going to miss his thoughtfulness, his laughter, wisdom, and friendship.
It was an honor to work with him.

Willibert

Alston was a person with a good heart and the ability for great compassion. He was my go to, when I had challenges with technology and that was often. Alston was patient, enduring and I was blessed having worked with him. I offer to his family the kindness and support that he provided the staff and our students. During times of programming, I had to explain to students that they couldn't ALL be in his class. When I would ask why they wanted to take his class, the response was always the same "he's a good teacher and easy to talk to." I'm going to miss listening to the music coming from his room in the early morning hours of our workday. It was a great way to start the day! You were a good person and a terrific role model for our students. R.I.P

I have worked with Alston for all of his 16 years at JMC. He was always there for me when I or my student had a tech problem . Many times when I was in his class a student would come in with a problem or just having a bad day. Alston never turned them away. He had a way of calming them down. He was a gentle giant; a teddy bear. I will miss hearing the music coming from his room in the early morning, but most of all I will miss him - getting him a soda from the teacher's lounge, searching for his attendance folder & talking to him. Gone, but never forgotten. R.I.P.

He was a mentor, father figure, and motivator that brought calm and peace to students who were going through turbulent times. I will surely miss seeing the kids run up to him to play fight with him, and just to say hello to him. I will miss him in the hallways saying " why are you late, get out the halls". He was a gentle soul who believed in his students and loved what he did. In all my years working with him, I have never seen him get loud or angry with his students or a colleagues.
What always struck me about Mr. Alston is how his classroom was such an important safe place for many students. Students who needed a place - and a person - to feel appreciated, cared for, allowed to be themselves and accepted unconditionally, found that place in his classroom and with him. That's priceless.

I will miss your laugh and your good morning Ms. Pena. The way you would look at me every time I would call your name or show up at your classroom. You had that oh no look what does she want from me look. I would just laugh and say nothing just wanted to mess with you and say hello. Thank you for putting up with me teaching me everything I need to know about technology and everything else to keep my office and the PTA room running smoothly. I will think of you every time I pass your door.

I met Mr and Mrs Alston in our house of worship on Englewood NJ. The years that I knew him, Jeff was a quiet man and very cordial and respectful. He was quiet at the breakfast table , but at times he would burst in laughter from hearing a funny conversation. I admired the love and respect he had for his wife Anna. They both had a very closed nit marriage. They worked together, worship together an took care of each other. Often Anna and I went shopping and Jeff would call to check up on her. One time I said to him, " we are shopping and Anna is spending all your money" of course in humor!! We would just chuckled!!
His smile and kindness will be missed!!
RIP big Jeff. You are in a better place.
Connie Hernandez.

I'm not sure why it took so long to write this. I know it is because I didn't want to face it. You left at a time when I felt I was losing so much, so many. Alston, whenever I needed help you were there. Even when you had to help over the phone. You helped us all equally, teachers, students, custodians, even my children. I know you are in heaven and free from pain. I know God is holding you and letting you watch over us. I know that the pain will pass, and the tributes will never end. I know you were a great man. You were always giving to our students. Willing to guide them into adulthood. You knew and trusted God and will forever be missed. You were a giant in size and character. Thank you for encouraging me to pray. Thank you for showing me that sometimes we are stronger when we are quiet.
Thank You for always being you.
Zulema Jones-Enoe
