During the rule of the emperor Claudius II, this one forbade the people to marry in his kingdom, to form a great and powerful army. Claudius believed that if the young men had no family, they would enlist more easily. Nevertheless, Valentine, contemporary Christian priest, revolted with the imposition of the emperor, continued to celebrate marriages in secret.
Of course, the emperor later knew what he was doing and had him arrested and sentenced to death. Many young couples brought flowers to him, thanking him and mentioning that they still believed in love.
Inside the prison, he falls in love with the blind daughter of the jailer and miraculously gives hem back hs vision.
