“And young people did more than display enthusiasm at massive rallies for Obama. By supporting Obama by a two-to-one margin, they provided him with the key edge in election.” (Edwards, Wattenberg, Lineberry 3)

It seems as if the youth show political interest when society’s “glass-ceiling” shattering movements are taking place. President Obama’s presidential win meant a great awakening for society, it’s something that effected everyone in big or smaller ways. The youth cared because it was a moment in history that shapes what our future will be.

“Lack of interest leads to lack of information.” (Edwards, Wattenberg, Lineberry 4)

The youth is greatly uninformed about its government and show no interest in changing that. Many youth explain that because they can’t vote, they can’t make a difference, but there are other ways to make change. If the youth lacks in information, they could judge a situation poorly and not fully understand what an issue is for or against. More importantly, they won’t get to build who they are as an american citizen and their role in the political aspect.

(Edwards, Wattenberg, Linberry 5)

This concept is an obvious one, yet the youth seems to forget: how can we expect to benefit from our government if we don’t inform ourselves and take part in politics? The youth distance themselves from politics expecting the system to never change because they believe the older generations have more power.
