Casino sales rose 5.5% in July from the previous month, compared with June, according to a report on Tuesday.

The year-on-year increase in casino sales was attributed to a 11.3 percent increase in table game sales to about 36.36 billion won in the month of July. The company said in a filing with the Korea Exchange that machine game sales rose 12.1 percent year-on-year to about 4.76 billion won.

The company's monthly update does not provide a comment on the reasons for the earnings change.

GKL's July results match sales recently announced by its market rival Paradise Inc. On Monday, Paradise Inc. said casino sales in July were about 74.15 billion won, up 3.2 percent from a year earlier and 19.1 percent from a year earlier.

GKL is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Korea. The casino operator, under the Seven Luck brand, runs three foreigner-only casinos in Korea, two in the capital city of Seoul and one in the southern port city of Busan.

The company said casino sales fell 3.1% year-over-year in the January-July period of 2019, just over 267.11 billion won.

Table game sales fell 4.1% to about 232.53 billion won during the period and machine game sales rose 4.4% to 34.58 billion won.

GKL said its first-quarter net profit halved in May to less than 8.46 billion won. GKL said its first-quarter revenue was down 10.5% year-over-year.
