Video One: Possible steps to take when rebuilding your score

https://youtu.be/d_zfP-_dlDU

This video touches on many steps you can take to rebuild your score. The biggest was knowing what your final objective or goal is. This will give you a bigger plan, rather than just trying to fix your credit score. It also stated that late payments will destroy your credit, so making your payments on time will help you out. It is always best to pay before the deadline because with some companies the payment may take a few days to process. Finally, the video touched on the impact of having multiple cards. This will help improve your score but having a card with a long history is better than having two brand new cards.

I chose this video because I found the information useful. Currently I am not in any credit card debt, and I do not plan on it. If I knew someone who was I would send them this link. The most useful piece of information that I learned would be knowing your own credit behaviour. Analyze your spending habits and see what go you into trouble in the first place. This will help you out in the future because if you know, you will not make those same mistakes again.

Video Two: Credit Card and Online Safety

https://youtu.be/FQvZ1Te21Ao

This video touched on the topics of credit cards and online safety. Fraudsters are using your social media accounts such as Facebook, twitter or LinkedIn to get your information. Not just to hack your account, but tracking your posts to see what you like, where you work and so on. They use this information to contact you, related to you and then steal your information. They touched on multi-factor identification to help protect your accounts, as well as your banking information. Do not share your personal information online and use this multi-factor identification to help protect all your information.

I chose this video because all over the news you see how fraudsters are finding new ways to access your personal information, and eventually start using your cards. This would leave you in massive amounts of debt and destroy your credit score. With the advances in technology that we are having, it is important that we stay of top of our personal security. The most interesting point I took from this video was the multi-factor identification. I had seen it before, but I had not known the extent in which it would protect me. I will now be going and enabling it on all my accounts.

Video Three: How to repair your score

https://youtu.be/4oIVcOgw15I

This video outlined several steps one may take to not only repair one’s score, but to maintain it afterwards. It started with reviewing you reports, making sure there are no errors and to dispute them immediately if found. Next, as you scan through, find any late or overdue payments. Do your best to catch up and make the minimal payment. If you continue to wait this will just put you even further in the hole. The next step was one that I found most interesting. Build an emergency fund. This can help save you down the road if something comes up and you must pay a lot of money. Ensuring you have money left over to pay your bills is crucial. Finally, use a secured card. These cards can be used by anyone, free to use and will cause no debt.

I chose this video because it gave some different tips on repairing and maintaining your credit score. As I have been viewing many videos, there seems to be a pattern on strategies to rebuild your score but this one stood out. The reason being, build an emergency fund. I had never thought of this before. Everyone has their savings account, but the emergency fund is even better. You never know when this will come in handy, and it is better to be safe than sorry.

Video Four: Credit card tips and tricks

https://youtu.be/eysYeqzKN8M

This video outlines strategies for the new credit card user, or someone who just wants to gain more knowledge as they use it. These tips will help you be smart with your card and help keep a good credit score. First, they talked about what most other videos did. Check your transactions each month, review your statements and call the company if you have any problems. Next, a few tips on how to stay out of trouble and myself being a new credit card owner, did not know some of these things. It stated, avoid cash advances, pay your balances every month and to use the cards that give you rewards. The most interesting fact will be listed down below.

I chose this video because most of the ones I found were how to get out of debt and repair your credit score. So why not have a video on how to keep a good credit score? I found this very fascinating with lot of good tips for myself to keep a good score. The most interesting point I found was asking your card provider to increase your monthly limit. This will increase your credit limit, while lowering your credit utilization ratio.

What did you learn about your topic that surprised you the most?

One thing that surprised me the most about credit scores is that your scores are not based simply on whether you pay your bill on time or not but it is actually based on 5 different factors. These 5 factors are payment history, credit utilization, average age of credit accounts, account types and inquiries.

Question Two:

Provide a real life example of how this topic is relevant or interesting for you.

This topic is relevant to me because I myself have a credit card and I like to keep my payments up to date and my credit score as good as possible. Doing this will ensure in the future I want to make a large purchase such as buying a car, house or property I can do so.

Question Three:

If you could pass on your knowledge to a family member or friend, what do you think is most important to pass on?

I would inform them that negative information eventually disappears. I'm not suggesting that they fall into bad habits, however, we all make mistakes so those moments of poor credit will not haunt them forever.
