"Excuse me! Excuse me! Family emergency! I squealed awkwardly as I threw myself against the full train carriage in a selfish attempt to create that little bit of standing space for myself, steeling myself against dirty looks thrown my way by irate commuters who bore the brunt of my body weight hurled against them.

"Excuse me! Brother dying... in the hospital... accident..." I panted breathlessly, hoping for some sympathetic display of camaraderie from my fellow commuters.

It worked.

More space was created by empathetic commuters and one even asked me what had happened. While relating the incident with whatever sparse details I could remember of that fuzzy conversation a short while ago with Mother, I ended up peppering the story with an exaggerated hyperbole of crashes and muted imagination of bloody scenes and details re-enacted and re-created only in my mind.

At the young age of 8, my brother, my dear brother, died because of a very unfortunate disease - Ectopia Cordis. It is a congenital malformation in which the heart is abnormally located either partially or totally outside of the thorax. He was born with his heart partially beating outside of his chest. I saw a heart, beating, out of my own brother’s chest! He wore a cast on his tiny little body since he was born.

A year ago, he had an operation in which his heart was placed back into his body, where any other normal person would have it at. Although he had his operation, his heart could never be in the normal position. After the operation, he could have his cast taken off. He was over the moon when he woke up from his operation the next day without the uncomfortable cast he wore for seven years.

A week later, he was walking down the street back home from school when he came across a traffic light. The light turned green and he crossed the road without looking to his sides.

According to my mother, my brother had crashed into a car. My irresponsible brother was using his handphone while crossing the road and he did not realise that the traffic light had turned red. Since lady luck was not on his side at that time, a car went hurtling towards his direction and could not slam on the breaks in time, it hit my brother. Immediately, the impact of the crash made my brother collapse in a heap and injure his leg severely.
Blood was gushing out of his leg. By then, my brother was unconscious and had turned pale. Without hesitation, the driver who had collided with my brother came runing out of his car and immediately asked one of the passers-by to fish out their telephone to call the ambulance

1) It is believable as that disease is something real and the storyline is not so predictable. Also, we think that their story is quite unique and interesting but the two of you said he died because of the disease but after reading the continuation, it seems like he died because of an accident.

Firstly, it is not believable that after learning that your brother is in the hospital and you are on the bus reading a book, not worrying about your brother at all. You should like emphasize on you being nervous.

Secondly, you had me interested at the last part where your mother said you had a last chance to talk to your brother, bla bla, bla, bla,it was really nice and smooth .

Lastly,I think I really could relate to the mother the most if I was in her shoes. If I had my son reaching late to see the last of his brother,I would question him. However , you could improve on your magnetic characters as I didn't really have one.
