Question 2: Los medios revictimizaron a tu hijo en las noticias?

Reflexion: En la platica hablaron de sus casos, de como se organizaban para ir a protestar afuera de la fiscalia, donde su protesta era bordar los nombres de sus familiares que estaban desaparecidos, llamaban a los medios y estaban ahi por horas. Contaron de sus busquedas que organizaban con madres buscadoras, en su grupo de FUNDENL, y como se llevaban acabo. Esta platica sirvio para poder abrir los ojos de el problema que esta pasando en nuestra comunidad y pues que todos estamos en riesgo de sufrir una disaparicion, que nadie esta excento de este problema, que fue algo que mencionaron en la platica, y pues yo creo que si es muy cierto, y pues que nosotras las mujeres estamos mas en riesgo de ser secuestradas.

In this scene Liz talks to Julia about how some people that work in the government refuse to talk with the searcher mothers because “supposedly” the expedient of their cases were wrong and there was nothing they could do, showing the incompetence and lack of empathy from the government has for their own people and discarding their disappearance as if they weren’t something that should been took care immediately

a- I think we could relate wealth and poverty with Lety hidalgo's case since normally people who are on the wealthy side have contacts of people with power, so they could just call the fiscal and actually make him search for their missing family member, probably bribing officials or doing illegal things, but it would most probably cause their family member to appear.

b- Inequality may affect the crisis on forced disappearances since in some cases the criminal may ask for money for their rescue and wealthy people can pay large amounts of money, while poorer people on the other side may not be able to afford the rescue. And as said in the previous question, wealthy people will most likely bribe higher officials with the purpose of accelerating the process or actually doing the process of finding a missing person, while poor people won't be able to afford that.

c- I can be a better citizen by understanding wealth and poverty, by being empathic with other people, when understanding where poverty comes from, like the unequal rights for education and just a generational disadvantage a family may be in, we could see poverty without being judgement and more with compassion or empathy, because we live in a world full of apathy, and we need to be the opposite. Also learning how difficult it is to be poor helps with breaking existing myths about poor people, like "los pobres son pobres por que quieren".

d- I would think inequality started when countries started colonizing others, making people slaves and social classes overall, so the problem of inequality goes way back because they gave lots of power and money to only certain people. And over the time this created unequal, injust, and unequal systems, which may be health, education and other systems that favor the wealthy.

🚨 El OIJ investiga el caso. Se hallaron rastros de sangre en su vivienda y su vehículo fue encontrado en Guápiles. Aún no hay rastro de ella ni del hombre que salió con ella ese día.

El OIJ investiga el caso, despues de encontrar rastros de sangre en su casa, y en su vehiculo el cual fue encontrado en Guápiles. Las autoridades estan siguiendo todas las pistas existentes para asi encontrarla, mientras la familia busca respuestas claras y acciones concretas.

In this scene at first some police officers get on the bus to inspect the passengers and when they see Abril´s papers and realize she is a journalist they take her away, this shows that people in power like officers, usually use their power to silence people who use the media to speak the truth, Abril represents a brave woman that wants to help the mothers who look for the people missing ,which is seen as a threat for the officers ,since they want to control everything and avoid accountability, so taking her away is a way to stop the truth from spreading, and that shows that telling the truth can be dangerous since it gives voice to the people who have been. ignored,disappeared or even revictimizatied.

I believe the most relevant role relies on the people because they literally represent the real persons that with all the determination in the world keep looking for their loved ones that dissapeared months or even years ago, and in the movie is a really good representation of their bravery and persistence. It is also very interesting how they represented Abril that could work for the media representation but instead falls victim of her job and the consecuences of "speaking too loud"

Los medios de comunicación de hoy en día son cruciales para entender qué pasa en el mundo y, aunque no nos demos cuenta, son los que nos ayudan a reforzar nuestra opinión sobre algo ya sea positiva o negativa, como es en el caso de FUNDENL. Si no fuera porque la fundación tiene ese deseo de ver a todas las familias reunidas con sus seres queridos y comparte la forma en que lidian con los problemas que se interponen los nombres de los desaparecidos hubieran sido enterrados bajo una pila más de otros nombres de casos que el gobierno quiere olvidar porque le conviene. Un ejemplo es el de la protesta frente a la fiscalía de Nuevo León, si las integrantes no hubieran llevado a medios televisivos ninguno de nosotros sabría porque tejen los bordados o que estaban haciendo en primer lugar y al escribir o grabar un video del tema ayuda a difundir este tema y concientizar a más personas sobre qué es lo posible que hace alguien que ha perdido a una persona que ama por culpa de las desapariciones forzadas. Como menciona Lety Hidalgo, ya sea con protestas, libros, poemas, canciones o incluso eventos deportivos ayuda a difundir sobre casos como el de Roy, apoyo a los grupos de búsqueda y dar voz a los que ya no pueden hablar por sí mismos en un gobierno que usa una herramienta informativa tan crucial para ocultar todo lo que lo incrimine y aparentar estar bien.

1. How can you relate wealth and poverty with Letty Hidalgo’s story? Explain

There is a huge possibility that if Letty had been extremely wealthy when Roy disappeared and offered a huge amount of money to find him Roy would be home already, sadly this isn’t the case and is a problem for families that struggle to obtain resources so they can keep searching and/or maintaining the file case for their loved ones.

2. Why inequality affects (or not) the crisis or forced disappearances?

Inequality does affect the crisis because when a someone that has influence or the son of a person in power goes missing the government tries its best for locating them, but when a person who is in less power disappears the policeman that is given the report argues that they probably went missing for something they did, ran away with their lover or some other excuse to get the case out of their back.

3.  How can you become a better citizen in terms of understanding wealth and poverty?

Being tolerant and understanding of the people who struggle in those aspects as well as investigating and/or talking to those persons to deepen our knowledge in the impact wealth and poverty has in the community so we can help in any way someone who is going through a similar problem. 

4. What is the origin of inequality?

Inequality surges when a group of people is given more importance and care than others with resources, accessibility etc. due to favoritism, social or political reasons, creating an imbalance between the two groups.

¿Qué opina al respecto sobre la influencia de las autoridades para difundir en los medios información que afecta la imagen de las madres buscadoras?

Las mamás buscadoras FUNDENL son mujeres valientes que luchan todos los días por encontrar a sus familiares que desaparecieron y mostraron lo importante que es colaborar entre todos us que esto es algo que le podría pasar a cualquiera como habían mencionado que incluso alguien con una vida muy “normal” y que haga las mismas cosas qye nosotros le podría pasar eso y ellas al buscar a los desaparecidos enfrentan muchos peligros debido a que a las autoridades no les conviene que se haga conocer la verdad y en sus inicios mencionaron que las intentaron detener pero ellas se defendieron diciendo que estaba en su derecho y que la policía las vigilab mientras tejían para recierdar à los desaparecidos y ponerlos en lugares públicos , porque ayudaba a que más gente tomara consciencia , y tambien los medios de comunicación dependen mucho del uso que se le dan porque les había tocado ver noticas falsas donde no contaban toda la informacion o que revictimizaban à las victimas diciendo que era su culpa por salir tan tarde à lugares peligrosos pero tambien se les puede dar buen uso para hacerles saber sobre lo que pas porque ellas tienen redes sociales y ahi daban a conocer lo que pasaban, una mamá contó un caso de un chico que llevaba a muchos meses desaparecidos pero ya cuando buscaban su nombre ya ni estaba registrado, y es algo triste entonces ellas nos enseñaba que con acciones pequeñas se pueden lograr grandes cosas

How can you relate wealth and poverty with Letty Hidalgo’s story? Explain

Well I think that poverty can make people desperate enough to have a violent life and do dangerous things like kidnapping and very wealthy people are too consumed by power that they don’t see human lives as valuable as money or power which cold also lead them to a violent life and this can result in dangerous organizations or persons that kidnap other people and this relates to Letty’s story since his son Roy was probably kidnapped as a result of these things.

Inequality affects the disappearances because if someone with a lot of power disappeared the authorities would talk a lot about it and try their best to find that person but when normal people go missing they try to revictimize the victim and act as if nothing ever happened ,which is really wrong since just because you have more power or money it means your life is more valuable than any other. 

 How can you become a better citizen in terms of understanding wealth and poverty?

To become a better citizen in that aspect you would need to have empathy and basic human values, to be aware that not everyone has the same opportunities and if possible help others.

What is the origin of inequality?

It has always existed,since humans have always found something to divide themselves and it’s funny since first we make stereotypes , then we classify people and then when we realize the problem it is we make it a common problem that somehow helps us reconnect with each other but it’s a cycle,unfortunately inequality is like a circle that you don’t even know where it starts or ends but inequality always comes from people who can’t accept the fact that it’s not the same for everyone. 

Bias: President Claudia Sheinbaum minimizes the feelings (and call hipocrites) of the searcher mothers and everyone that cared about the dissapeared by saying "Now everyone cares and hurts for the dissapeared" because alegally those protestants were from the opposite group from Morena

Government oficial narratives: The protestants were supposedly afiliated with the opposition group of the president government, making "innecesary" scandals in Palacio Nacional's door just to make Morena look bad.

Lack of victim representation: President Claudia Sheinbaum states that just now "Now everyone cares and hurts for the dissapeared" when is known that searcher groups of family and non-family members have been looking for thei loved ones that were forced to dissapear since the war with the narco started and haven't stopped since.

Omission: President Claudia Sheinbaum states that their reasons for the people to protest outside Palacio Nacional were unclear and would be answered in a in a posterior conference, when it was very clearly the protestants were seeking for answers from the president about the events and findings of narcs movement in Teuchitlán.

And then I went to the article I choose which was written by the Fiscalía General del Estado de Oaxaca on the case of Sandra Domínguez and her husband Alexander Hernández and it showed how the government can change facts since the article omits important things and talks about success, making the authorities seem like the good ones when it doesn’t mention at all that Sandra was a famous activist who had faced a lot of threats from public officials, who were from the party of Morena which exactly the same party that the Fiscalia General of Oaxaca belongs to, 

And this, takes away responsibility from the officers also the article doesn’t mention at the all family of the victims and all the things Sandra discovered and was threatened about which I believe that makes her identity look less important and doesn’t even show empathy and it simply helps to protect the reputation of Morena and shows bias in the official communication
