Pete the Cat is one of my favorite characters in children's books. Maybe it's because of my love of cats. Pete loves to dance but all his friends are telling him he is not so great. Through determination, practice and some wise words from Mr. Owl, Pete comes into his own with dancing.

"Pete the Cat and the Cool Cat Boogie" would be great for a beginning level dance class. It would address how dance is expressed in different forms by different people and most importantly to be yourself and not give up.

Beekle is an imaginary friend and was having a difficult time finding his perfect person or friend. Beekle goes on an adventure and does some unimaginary things. Through his adventures the world became less strange and he became comfortable being alone and gained self confidence.

I would use this book with young patrons but focusing on kindergarten students. The book would help young children to not fear adventure and not shy away from making friends.

Mr. Pigeon wants to drive the bus, but the bus driver has instructed everyone to not allow him to drive the bus. Mr. Pigeon dreams of driving the bus, but no one will play with him on the bus.

I would use this book with younger patrons through first grade. It is a great book to support a young child's dream and never to give up on them.

Penelope the dinosaur is excited for her first day of school. Throughout the school day she has a hard time making friends. Then at lunch, she makes that task even more difficult when she eats her classmates. Penelope's teacher scolds her and tells her that "we don't eat our classmates." Of course this only makes becoming friends with her classmates even more difficult as they are afraid of her.

This is another book that would be great with preschool and kindergarten classes. It helps to address that all children are alike inside (multicultural class room) and supports the adage "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Juno is scrambling to find her favorite shoes so that she is not late for school. As she is looking in her closet, she sees something sparkly and is transported to a magical world. Here there are all kinds of fancy shoes to try on and little Juno begins to window shop.

This book would be great with a young girl's birthday party at the library or if celebrated at school (up to third grade). Juno's journey reinforces that young girls can grow up to be anything that their heart desires and teaches them about historical figures behind some fancy shoes. It also shows young girls that they can make their own magic with their shoes.

Unicorns need sunshine and rainbows for magic and unfortunately it is raining on the island of unicorns. Uni believes in little girls and therefore is still filled with magic. Meanwhile, a little girl sees the rain and knows she is needed in the island of unicorns.

This book would be great with patrons in the second great. It too focuses on not giving up on dreams but most importantly, the importance of working together. Through working together, you can accomplish a lot.
