It has prompted me to analyse my current practice which invariably involves take pains to ensure the content is fit for purpose. This is a result from trying to meet expectations from programme teams who have some subject matter knowledge. I need to balance this out and pay more attention to the design aspect as that is my specialism. The deep dive for supporting resources could be the solution we have been waiting for. Our standard practice is not to include external links so as to not signpost learners away from the module, but by placing it at the end of the module, the risk to the core learning would be mitigated. I found the wireframing particularly beneficial and identified gaps in Activation and Practice. Due to the nature of conceptual knowledge which needs to be broken down, there is definitely a leaning on a 'tell, tell, tell more' approach which can lead to disengaging the learner. I will work on incorporating interactive activities and exercises that can scaffold the knowledge and is less demanding cognitively. I am keen to design scenarios but need local areas to design the learners working context, relatable characters and scenarios and plausible choices and consequences. I am aware of the expectation placed on the learning and development coordinators on the look and feel and for coming up with ideas on how to bring the content to life. When it comes to animations and imagery, in my experience i find less instruction produces better results as the coordinator can exercise their creativity. High level guidance is provided and any potential risks are communicated e.g. stereotyping. The screen plan is also a useful activity which can help onboard the stakeholders and get their involvement.
