Most Koreans thought after World War II that Korea would once again become the independent kingdom that it was but that was not the case. Instead postwar politics came in and temporarily divided the nation but it unintentionally became the highly separated nation it is today.

started June 1950, with the first attack from the North Koreans to the South. The South stood a little chance against the North by themselves so they sought aid from the United States who immediately came to their side. The United States stopped the advancing of the invasion and years after fighting ceased. Although no peace agreement was meant so technically the war is still on going.

of North and South Korea occurred after World War II. Before the war the peninsula was unified and controlled by the Japaneses but after Japan's surrender there was a desperate need for someone to fill the seat of power. The victorious allies of the war were the Unites States and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union took over the north making it communist while the United States took over the South making it anticommunist. This separation was supposed to be temporary but became permanent.

there was uneasy tension between North and South Korea, with the North launching violent attacks against the South. The United States, South Korea closest military ally, stepped in to set a strong statement to North Korea. The U.S. also contacted China, North Korea's closest ally, to try and convince them to put pressure on North Korea. and as a way to try and avoid a second Korean war from erupting.

of the Korean Peninsula, the United States's attitude towards North Korea has been negative. America consistently supports North Korea's major enemy, the Republic of Korea. As years have passed South Korea has advanced to become more advanced and the North has significantly fell behind leaving it with only its nuclear powers to give it importance. Such importance that the DPRK (Democratic Public of Korea), the United States, and other countries have joined together to try and eliminate the threat that North Korea holds with it's nuclear weapons. This can be done through efforts of persuading North Korea to either slow down their nuclear program or be done with it all together.
