         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;<a>file:///C:/Users/my/Downloads/dpd_posibnyk_eng_final%204_organized.pdf</a>&nbsp;<br>I found this fun pre-debate activity from the British Council in which the teachers assigns character roles to students "trapped in a lift" including&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>A person with anger management issues&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>A recently divorced couple&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>A person who is claustrophobic&nbsp;<br><br>The class has to engage in a variety of active listening gestures and try to guess the character. The listeners and actors switch places and new characters are assigned.&nbsp;<br>The activity aims to build confidence for speaking in front of the class. Secondly, it develops different types of active listening also using role playing. (Listen as if you're bored, listen while interrupting the speaker and listen attentively and respond with body language and positive vocal noises.)<br><br>The activity preps students for debating in that it forces them to think on their feet and answer classmates' questions about the character, so they have to make up biographical information during the activity. Later, they'll have to come up with counter-arguments during debating once they hear their opponents' arguments.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This is one of the suggested activities. I like it because I believe I can use this activity with all of my learners from 3 pointers to 5 pointers.&nbsp;<br><br>In this activity students are required to cross the circle and find a different seat if they agree with a statement. This is a fun activity. I would follow up with the activity "If I ruled the world I would...          <title>A speech opportunity</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Since beginning this course, I've really been inspired to implement what I've learned.<br>So...&nbsp;<br>the first thing I did was create a "Hyde Park Speakers' Corner" in our school, in which each month a different grade takes over the school.&nbsp; The students give speeches on a variety of topics (celebrating free speech).&nbsp; This is practiced beforehand, including working on writing the speeches, using the clear 3-point speech, and getting feedback from their peers before actually delivering the speech to the rest of the student body.&nbsp; It replaces "English Day" in that English is heard in the hallways once a month throughout the entire year.&nbsp;<br><br>In addition, as part of their final project, I had my 12th grade students write a speech that was inspired by their written project.  It was a joint English - Civic Studies project on what's known as a בעיה אזרחית, so the students were passionate.  They had to record themselves on Flipgrid delivering their speech and then also give it to their classmates and receive feedback.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The topic of the speech connects to the first  unit of the book" High Five" that deals with the bystander effect. The topic of the speech: Do we have a moral obligation to help a person in trouble? This can be done individually as a speech where the speaker is merely expressing his opinion or it can be done by dividing the class into 2 groups,as a debate, the first one supporting the idea and the second one rejecting it. Or , each group may try to talk it over and reach a group concensus which will later be presented to the class. </div>]]></description>
