Allow me to introduce myself. I am Nursyahirah Binti Fadillah, with matric number 277270. I am currently taking a Bachelor's Degree in Tourism Management at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and am undergoing an internship for the final semester. I am excited to join this community and begin my journey as a charity intern. As I step into this new chapter, I look forward to using the knowledge and skills I have gained in a practical setting.

I am undergoing charity training at Tourism Malaysia Sabah. Tourism Malaysia, is an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture Malaysia. It focuses on the specific task of promoting Malaysia as a preferred tourist destination. Since its inception, it has emerged as a major player in the international tourism scene.

Thank you for welcoming me into this community. I am looking forward to learning and growing alongside each of you.

• The morning of the first week began with an orientation session conducted by a representative of the Human Resources Division. He introduced me to the company's mission, vision and core values, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, innovation and customer satisfaction.

• After the orientation session, Mr. Hafizie took me on a tour of the office, introduced me to my colleagues and showed me around the office. Mr. Hafizie gave me an overview of the company's internal systems, software tools and protocols. I learned how to answer calls and how to treat customers properly.

• I was also briefed by Mr. Hamizul related to the role of this company in promoting tourism and the difference between this company and other companies. Tourism Malaysia promotes various tourism destinations in Malaysia through various platforms including social media, promotional events, international tourism exhibitions, and advertising campaigns. The company will publish useful information about destinations, activities, events and tourism infrastructure in Malaysia. This includes websites, brochures, tourist maps and other promotional materials. Tourism Malaysia works with local stakeholders to develop attractive tourism products, including destination branding, development of tourism facilities, and enhancement of the tourism experience.

  
  

• During the first week of the internship, I also had the opportunity to meet the Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia Sabah, Mrs. Trecey J Tojuka. She gave me support for this 4-month internship.

  
  

The first week of the internship was very interesting and informative. I feel grateful for the welcome and support I received from everyone at Tourism Malaysia Sabah. I look forward to diving into my project and contributing to the team in a meaningful way over the coming weeks.

• In the second week of my internship, I learned to enter relevant information from newspapers into the Executive Information System, further enhancing my understanding of the tourism landscape in Sabah and the importance of accurate data management.

9 April 2024

• Answering phone calls from customers including tourists, travel agencies, hotels and others. A common question that always arises from tourists is related to the registration status of travel agencies and hotels under the ministry. In response, I strive to provide complete information and guidance, emphasizing the importance of choosing a registered entity certified by the ministry. I help tourists by sending them to official channels to confirm registration, such as ministry websites or direct contact information for relevant departments.

• On 16 April, I attended a discussion with Mrs. Tracey and Mrs. Gay Leona, where the focus was on MATTA FAIR Sabah 2024. During this meeting, Mrs. Tracey presented me with the responsibility of creating a Tourism Quiz that will be conducted online on the TikTok Tourism Malaysia platform. Throughout the discussion, we thoroughly covered every aspect of the quiz, including the number of questions, how to make the poster, and details about the prizes.

• Tourism Malaysia Sabah chose Health and Wellness as the theme of MATTA FAIR in 2024.

• The quiz poster is posted on Tourism Malaysia Sabah's Facebook and Instagram applications, which is one of our promotional efforts. By leveraging this popular social media platform, we aim to maximize visibility and engagement among our target audience.

20 - 21 April 2024

• The quiz runs from 20 to 22 April.

• The announcement of the winner of the Tourism Quiz on April 25 on all Tourism Malaysia Sabah social media platforms was an exciting highlight of the quiz series. Congratulations to all 20 winners who showed their knowledge and passion for Sabah tourism attractions!

• To claim the eligible prize, the winners are invited to visit the MATTA FAIR Sabah 2024 event at the Sabah International Convention Centre. This provides an excellent opportunity for the winners to not only receive their prizes but also to immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere of the exhibition and explore the various offerings of Sabah's tourism industry.

• I had the opportunity to work for MATTA FAIR Sabah which took place at the Sabah International Convention Center (SICC). During these three days, I had the privilege of actively participating in promoting Sabah's tourism offerings, engaging with visitors, and assisting in various event activities. There are several tourism agencies that collaborate under Tourism Malaysia Sabah:

• The atmosphere at the convention center was full of excitement as visitors explored the various tour packages, cultural exhibitions and adventure opportunities that Sabah had to offer. It is inspiring to witness the passion and dedication of exhibitors and visitors, all united in their love for travel and exploration.

• During my time at MATTA FAIR Sabah 2024, I had the opportunity to interact with visitors, answer their questions, and provide assistance, ensuring they have an unforgettable and enjoyable experience at the event. Additionally, I had the opportunity to learn more about Sabah's tourism industry, network with industry professionals, and gain valuable insight into the trends and developments shaping the sector. Many agencies offer inbound and outbound packages to visitors.

FLY BORNEO SPECIAL VOL.2 - MORE ADVENTURE AWAITS YOU

• I was assigned to prepare interview questions for the program 'Fly Borneo Specials Vol. 2 – More Adventures Await You! Which will be broadcast on Sabah FM, Sarawak FM and Labuan Fm.

• This program is a continuation of the program 'Fly Borneo Specials Vol. 1 – The Adventure Begins Here!' and one of the initiatives of the Sabah TIC Supervisory Office together with Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) ), MATTA Sabah Chapter and Bank Rakyat to develop travel packages that include the cost of flight tickets, accommodation and tours in three (3) states namely Sabah, Sarawak and WP Labuan.

• A total of 108 packages from 58 valid travel agencies in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan have been successfully collected.

• 'More Adventure Awaits' was chosen because Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan have great potential for unique and diverse adventure experiences. The stunning natural beauty and diverse adventure activities make this state an ideal destination for those who want breathtaking views and unforgettable experiences.

• On May 14, I attended the Malaysia Mega Sale 2024 meeting organized by the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board (Tourism Malaysia). This program will take place from 15 June to 31 July involving four (4) shopping complexes in Sabah (Imago Mall, Suria Sabah Mall, Karamunsing Mall, One Borneo Mall).

• Tourism Malaysia Sabah also cooperates with the Sabah International Convention Center (SICC).

• Incentives in the form of 'meal vouchers' will be given to customers who spend at the shopping complex involved and reach the purchase target.

• I was instructed to make meeting minutes for Malaysia Mega Sale 2024.

• During this week, I worked as a customer service representative, dedicated to helping tourists from various countries who came to get detailed information about Sabah. My role involves providing comprehensive guides and insights into Sabah's diverse and captivating destinations, ensuring visitors have all the information they need to make the most of their stay. I help them discover hidden gems and popular attractions, whether they're interested in exploring suburban rainforests, pristine beaches or cultural landmarks.

I attended the third Sabah TIC Supervisory Office Staff Meeting. This meeting is held to update about new tourism products every month and the schedule of division of duties for tourism officers.

Promotional Activity Plan for 2024

The main focus of the meeting was the promotional activity plan for 2024. The following events and initiatives were discussed in detail:

Fly Borneo Special Vol.2: Continuation of the popular Fly Borneo series, this volume will showcase more hidden things and unique experiences in Sabah.

Matta Fair Sabah: Participation in this leading tourism fair will allow to reach a wider audience and promote Sabah as a major tourism destination.

Twin Destination Diving Properties: A new initiative aimed at attracting diving enthusiasts by highlighting the underwater treasures of WP Labuan.

Labuan Surf Fishing Competition: This competition is expected to attract fishing enthusiasts from all over the world, promoting both the sport and the natural beauty of Labuan.

Penerbitan Direktori dan Fun Map untuk tujuan promosi bagi Persatuan Pelancongan Sandakan (STAN), Persatuan Pengusaha Durian dan Buah-Buahan Tropika Sabah (MASDA) dan Persatuan Pelancongan Cina Malaysia (MCTA) WP Labuan: Publication of pleasure directory and map for promotional purposes by Sandakan Tourism Association (STAN) will provide a valuable resource for tourists.

COBT - Roadshow: The roadshow will travel to various locations to promote Sabah tourism, engaging directly with potential visitors.

Corporate Travel Bazaar (CTB): This bazaar will target corporate customers, offering travel packages that promote and promote Sabah as a business and holiday destination.

Malaysia Mega Sale 2024: Participation in this nationwide sales event will provide an excellent platform to attract buyers and tourists.

I have been tasked with preparing the minutes of these staff meetings, ensuring that all important matters and decisions are accurately recorded and disseminated to the relevant parties.

• I was assigned to check the package for the Fly Borneo Special Vol program. 2 - More Adventure Awaits You which involves three (3) states namely Sabah, Sarawak and WP Labuan.

• I was instructed to check in terms of package description, package include, travel agent, price, picture, address and license number.

• I was assigned to work in the Tourist Information Center (TIC) section at KKIA. This is a great opportunity to engage with visitors from all over the world and showcase the beauty and diversity of Kota Kinabalu and Sabah.

Provide Comprehensive Information

As a representative at TIC, the main responsibility is to be a source of information for travelers:

• Guide visitors to must-see spots in Sabah.

• Distribute maps, brochures, and informational pamphlets.

• Recommend places to stay, from luxury hotels to budget-friendly hostels.

• Suggest a variety of dining options, including local eateries, seafood restaurants, and international cuisine.

• Provide information on guided tours, adventure activities like diving and hiking, and cultural experiences such as traditional dance performances.

• Update tourists on current events, festivals, and local happenings.

• Assist with special needs such as mobility assistance, dietary preferences, and family-friendly activities.

For this week, I got travelers from Belgium, Spain, United Kingdom, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Korea and other countries.

• Conducted a detailed inventory count of Tourism Malaysia Sabah's promotional merchandise, including items such as brochures, posters, keychains, T-shirts, and tote bags. Recorded the quantity of each item and noted any discrepancies from previous inventory records.

• Organized the merchandise storage area by grouping similar items together, labeling boxes, and ensuring that frequently used items were easily accessible.

Final Review of "Fly Borneo Special Vol. 2" Package:

• Conducted a detailed final check of the "Fly Borneo Special Vol. 2" package, ensuring all components such as transport, meals, activities, reference numbers, and accommodation details were accurate and correctly documented.

• Cross-checked all transport arrangements, including flight schedules, airport transfers, and local transportation options. Confirmed that all details matched the itinerary and that reference numbers for bookings were correct and clearly listed.

• Overall, working at MATTA FAIR Sabah 2024 was a rewarding experience that allowed me to contribute to the promotion of Sabah tourism while deepening my understanding of the industry. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a dynamic and impactful event, and I look forward to continuing to support and promote Sabah tourism in the future.

The Tuaran Buddhist Ling San

• On the first day of the quiz conducted at TikTok Tourism Malaysia Sabah, we witnessed an overwhelming response from the participants, marking an encouraging start to our engagement efforts.

Customer Coordination:

• Handling calls from travel agencies requesting information about collaboration opportunities with Tourism Malaysia. Collect their details and forward it to the relevant department for follow up.

Providing Customer Support:

• Assisted customers with booking inquiries, including providing details on available tour packages, transportation options, and accommodation recommendations. Guided them on how to book directly through Tourism Malaysia's website.

Meeting Room Setup:

• Prepared the meeting room for a scheduled client meeting with representatives from an international travel agency. Arranged seating, ensured that all necessary equipment (projector, laptop, and conference phone) was functional, and placed relevant documents and promotional materials on the table.

Final Tourist Assistance:

• Provided assistance to several international and domestic tourists at the TIC, answering questions about local attractions, transportation options, and cultural events in Sabah. Helped them with last-minute itinerary adjustments and provided brochures and maps.

• Participated in a feedback session with the TIC supervisor. Discussed my overall experience, areas of improvement, and shared suggestions for future interns. Received valuable feedback on my performance and contributions to the team
