While you do your best for them and don't want them to go without the okay from the medical team, it is ultimately up to them. Leadership is "a set of behaviors used to help people align their collective direction, execute strategic plans, and continually renew an organization (2022 para 1)."  While a whole host of things constitute what a leader is and what they are not, this definition gives us a glimpse into what a leader's mission and responsibilities are. Leaders lead their followers to success and open doors to new opportunities as long as they lead effectively. I hope to be able to be a good leader in the future.

Oncology was consulted, and the patient was scheduled for a liver biopsy. The patient refused two biopsies, and it was due to her fear and anxiety about the next steps. Rather than accepting her refusal, I wanted to find ways to alleviate her anxiety and change her outlook on getting the biopsy. I was able to provide education and have Ativan order for her to be given 30 minutes before the biopsy.
