Nature itself indeed has so many languages, as do we. In saying that my creative piece links to this resource due to my experience being in nature. It states that studies have shown how children in different types of environments, more “natural” and “green” play spaces, children are more engaged in creative forms of play, including fantasy and pretend play. Which are the whole dramatic arts and movement experience I felt and played with in my imagination, through being out in a green and natural space. Natural play spaces remind me of the article Let's play outside by Marisa Lark Wallin. “Collaboration, creativity, Imagination, inventiveness, problem-solving, coordination, physical strength- when children are given the space and the time to freely play outdoors. Truly, the whole child can grow” (Wallin, 2019). These words speak the language I am speaking, as I have conducted this creative piece, it has opened up another perspective in my mind. It reminds me of what I felt and what children feel in natural, open-ended environments and how much they are benefiting from these environments and play spaces. How their minds are much more creative when outdoors and playing. Both of these readings go hand in hand in hand with one another. Speaking on the importance of natural environments/play spaces that children are engaging with in the early years. Both touch on the vital aspects of movement, sound and the dramatic arts, the imaginative play that children are engaging with when they are in these natural environment play spaces. Children are also using temporal languages through play, exploring them more so in these outdoor spaces. The way these articles and different perspectives have influenced my practices is by slowing down, removing myself from my teacher role and imagining myself in my kinder children’s shoes. Being young and letting go of my predetermined thoughts and embedding more of a natural and outdoor approach when planning experiences, excursions and or activities for the children.
