Using metric and imperial measurements to check our animals get the right amount of food they need

Today we spent some time looking at how deceptive it can be when you see an amount of something and guestimate how much you think it weighs, especially if you measure out three different things using the same scoop and each weighs slightly differently depending on what is in the scoop!

Some great work done today with our animals, feeding, cleaning and checking their diets are being monitored according to their weight and we aren't over or under feeding them! Some good use of traditional and digital scales, measurements for water and liquid vitamins, and comparing how comfortable we are with new metric measurements - grams/kilo grams rather than lbs and ounces. Definitely one to practice when we go shopping - make sure you are comparing the same weights per pack size.

Measuring and converting imperial ft and inches into metric cm and metres

Today we completed two activies - a rustic snail/pot fascinator and a decorated woodland window. For both we practiced our maths skills - measuring and counting, adding to work out how much extra we needed to allow on our frame for binding corners and for our strips of leather and fabric.

With our superb snails we used the meter rule to cut 18 peices to wool to length for baiding in 6 lengtsh of 3 different colours. Great fun for numeracy and for crafting. Well done all.

Sometimes the finishing touches can make all the difference - so maybe have a think about this, or try decorating/painting your pot, one idea is to coat it in polyfilla and then stick shells, reflective beads, anything at all really into it - makes a great, individual and textured finish. Don't forget to seal it with spray varnish or diluted pva glue to waterproof it.
