It was a request I had raised with my manager earlier during our 1-to-1 sessions as I wanted to hone my skills which she confidently delegated to me thereafter. As I was always involved in the later stages of planning, I possessed minimal skills and knowledge. I was overwhelmed at first when I did not know what to do. Later part, I realised that the key was to break down each step and to segment out my priorities so that I could branch out the solutions and steps to proceed from there. Using a step-by-step approach would better organise my tasks and hence a clearer view of what needs to be done.

This inspired me to create a formula-based working file to aid the team's process improvement. For more than 6 months now that I have been using the working file, we never encountered any incorrect data output. Control checks became more efficient and reliable, and this has greatly lessened time spent on our task.  But this doesn't stop here. This year, we aim to innovate the template with the help of FBA team for a more automated working file.

When the pandemic hits, companies just like ours are forced to implement work from home for most of our employees to comply with the government's mandate and to secure everyone's safety. 

    While working from home, I faced many challenges that I don't use to experience when I was working on-site, and one of them is fluctuating electric power supply. It come to a point that it already affects my reliability and overall performance at work. I know that I need to face and resolve the problem but buying a generator for an alternative power supply is out of my budget. 

    I tried to look for other options and came up with the idea of using car batteries as an alternative source of power supply. But I know it's not sufficient as there is a chance that the battery may run out of power if the power interruption in our area lasts for days. 

    I came up with an idea to use an AVR power charger. So I bought one and attached the AVR'S wire clip to the battery and see if it will recharge the lost power of the battery that I already used, and voila! It worked!  While we have a power supply in my apartment, the AVR charger is directly plugged into our main socket to recharge the battery until it's full, and ill just need to click a button on the AVR so that the energy coming from the battery will be converted to a 220amp power. 

    This gives me a thought that we can make the impossible, possible. That we are not bounded on what the problem is but what we are willing to do, to resolve it. Using our imagination, with the help of us being resourceful, we can find a smart and innovative way to resolve and surpass our problems

Last year was no different -- but with the power of effective problem solving, the team was able to achieve a very significant improvement. 

    With the complexities and different variables involving operations, being structured became so important. The first step is proper understanding of the problem and stating the issues… because as John Dewey once said: “A problem well-stated is a problem half-solved.” It is a vital step that required the collaboration of team members – to understand the different layers of the issue. 

    It is common for us to be overwhelmed with the information in front of us, but with the use of an issue tree, it becomes easier. The team was able to consider ideas and valuable inputs of each other. Breaking down the problem makes it simpler. Through this, we were able to formulate solutions and prioritize the implementation. 

    Indeed, effective problem solving allows us to exhibit the “We Run” and “We Commit” values of Shopee. Continuing to challenge the status quo, moving faster and better as a collaborating team to create value for the customers and the organization.
