Perhaps more popularly known as the "multigenre paper" coined by Tom Romano.

In short, I had my students write personal narratives and use Padlet to enhance their stories with the multimedia elements of their choice.

What about non-digital pieces?

If students want to supplement their writing with a performance piece, such as performing a dance, then they could simply use their Padlet as a hub for hosting videos of their performances.

Students use NoRedInk.com's Guided Draft for Narratives to write their traditional personal narrative.

Multimedia/Multigenre Content

And they make their own Padlets to create multimedia/multigenre pieces that enhance their narratives.

The possibilities on Padlet are essentially limitless.

Students can create from scratch like I did for this presentation.

They also have DOZENS of templates, which they call recipes. These are prefabricated for many functions. I would argue that many - maybe all of them - could be adapted to supplement a personal narrative.

What is the impact on student learning when we create learning opportunities with technology that were previously impossible?

The impact on learning is improved student authenticity. Students can use this learning opportunity with its digital tools to tailor a more unique, personalized, and student-based product. Time is telling us that the more student-based, the better.

I am reminded of a painter’s color palette or a writer’s vocabulary; the more we have, and the better we understand them, the more authentic our expression may be.

Despite whatever students choose to do with their Padlet, I require that they also add a brief audio recording where they explain how their multimedia elements complement or enhance their narrative.
