         <description><![CDATA[<div>Much of the damage that lightning does to trees is a result of what happens when the moisture inside a tree is subjected to the super-hot temperatures caused by lightning. A tree's moist tissues often sit just below the outer layer of bark. This is why some lightning strikes result in the bark of a tree appearing to explode in large chunks<br>If the outer layer of bark is soaked from excessive rainfall, however, the lightning may travel along the outside of the tree to the ground, resulting in little damage. At other times, though, intense lightning bolts may split trees in two and cause them to burst into flame from the inside out.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Girdling roots are usually lateral roots slightly below the soil line that cut into at least one side of the main trunk.  These roots restrict water and nutrients, which may be heading to the leaves.  Branches will eventually become weakened and the tree may die in five to fifteen years from the girdling roots alone.  Cultural practices like fertilization, irrigation and pruning will not offset the slow growth caused by girdled roots.  Once diagnosed, they should be treated promptly.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Too little water-causes wilted or curling leaves and early leaf drop.  Also.... a sparse  canopy of off-colour and undersized leaves, leaf scorch or yellowing leaves.  Too much water-new growth withers before it&#39;s fully grown or becomes light green or yellow.  Leaves can also appear green but are fragile and break easily.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A toxic gas emmitted by the industrial burning of fossil fuels, Sulphur dioxide damage is largely restricted to around industrial sites. It causes many small injurys to the foliage through the stomata. The symptoms are bleached or pigmented areas (tan or dark brown in colour) between the veins of broad leaves. In Pines it causes the tips of the needles to brown.          <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Signs: Wilted leaves, brown edges from desiccation, may be on one side only the windward side, large leaved plants are effected more than small especially pot plants. Some symptoms are similar to wind damage.<br>Other name variants: Wind scorch or leaf scorch.<br>Causes: Rapid movement of dry air causes moisture to be lost and if not replaced quickly from the soil can cause it. Waterlogged or frozen soil may be causes for lack of water as well as drought.<br>Causes other than a strong prevailing wind: difficult soil conditions, winter time is usually when it occurs.<br>Prevention: Wind breaks, horticultural fleece for overwintering, mulches to help retain water, and remove the damaged leaves over 50% gone in the spring.<br>However, as seedlings wind can help them develop more roots and become more sturdy. But too much can cause the above. Leaf burning is more often caused by wind than by the sun.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Can drain water by exosmosis. When paving is being de-iced it can burn leaves and buds. Plants are more at risk to salt damage dutring winter time, de-icing salts. When we clean up the pavements salt goes on to flower beds and lawns and kills it.</title>
