Mother's sweet and loving personality drastically changed. She became a harsh mother and started to abuse Dave. He described her as a "witch" and she also showed no sympathy for him.

One day Mother attempted something extremely bizarre. She burned Dave's hand on the stove and tried to get him to lay on top of it. Dave wasted time until his brother came home because Mother never acts crazy in front of other people. At that moment Dave realized that he could survive Mother's games.

Dave was also being starved by Mother. He said that she would "forget" to feed him dinner. Dave would always fantasize about food before he went to bed. He would hope that he next day maybe he would receive food.

Since Dave was not eating food at home, he began stealing food at school. At first no one knew who was stealing the food, but eventually Dave was caught. Mother would starve Dave longer and beat him more because of his thefts.

Dave was stabbed by Mother. She showed no sympathy towards him after she stabbed him. She bandaged him up and told him to go downstairs and finish his chores. This was extremely difficult for him because of his wound.

After Dave was stabbed, he went to go to tell Father. Father demanded that Dave should leave him alone before he and Dave get caught by Mother. Dave no longer saw Father as his hero and he hated Father more than he did any other at the moment. Father also started to hang around the house less.

Mother began to act loving and caring towards Dave again. He felt like as if he were a part of the family again. Dave would soon realize that Mother was faking. She only did that because social services was coming to see how Dave was doing. After social services left, everything went back to normal.

Dave soon began to not believe that there was a God. He was filled with anger and no longer showed any emotion. On the outside, Dave acted as if he were a robot.
