1. Is the Oral Tradition of Storytelling important to humanity and our cultures? Why or why not?

Yes, oral tradition is a way of passing down knowledge to all kinds of people. Take for example fables and fairy tales for children like the turtle and rabbit race where you learn that slow and steady wins the race; patience and determination is key to success. It is an easy way to pass down knowledge to everyone, whether it be for the benefit of humanity or our cultures doesn’t matter , so long as an oral story can be made from it.

2. Was there anything of value that you learned from these storytellers (videos)?

These storytellers taught me the importance of keeping your identity alive within yourself. Simply being who you think you are is not the same as being who you are. In order to find who you are you must ask yourself the question of who you are and where you come from. That is where oral storytelling comes in: the stories of who you are make your existence and your feelings finally make sense and feel valid. Through these stories those who are lost, confused or just curious are able to learn about themselves.

3. In what ways has the Oral Tradition impacted your life?

Recently I’ve been getting very involved in my faith, and I’ve had the opportunity to listen to the stories of how others have discovered their faith within themselves. Although I can’t relate to a lot of these stories they have broadened my scope of what my life on Earth may mean. And even if my life here is to have no meaning at all I am determined to at least be a decent human being and “leave the world a little colder” as some may say.

1. Yes, oral storytelling is a very special way of passing down traditions and values of a culture and it gives the listener a more personal connection to the story. They become familiar with the story and feel as if it's their own, something that they can share with other people. And having stories passed through the generations brings the people together and preserves values and beliefs and their importance to certain people.

2. I learned that their are powerful messages behind these stories and that they give lessons to their listeners, which in some ways, if you think about the traditional aspect of the storytelling, really shows how lessons and teachings are passed down through generations.

3. My family members tell me stories about things that happened to them in the past, things that are significant to the family and having this knowledge of them isn’t something that I can learn anywhere else so it’s precious to me. Being Latinx, it can be hard to know where you came from and that sucks when trying to form an identity for yourself. I wish I knew more about my ancestors and I don’t so, this is all I have.

1) The oral tradition of storytelling s an important way in which different cultural groups pass down knowledge. An example of this could be Native Tribes that pass their legends down from generation to generation through oral storytelling. This is a way to show more emotion as the knowledge and the story is passed down.
2) The storytellers taught me that their is power in the way stories are told that simply cannot be seen when reading. The videos showed how generations are taught different lessons through stories.

3) I’ve seen the oral tradition in a two ways throughout my life. First, in my family as they tell me stories of how they grew up or even how they immigrated here. Secondly, at church when we get to learn testimony’s from other people and how they discovered and accepted god. In both instances I was able to learn a lot whether it was understanding a church leader more or discovering more about my family.

(1)yes oral tradition is important as people can describe things with actual emotion and not just writing, which can help people understand what you are trying to describe and makes your story that more interesting. this also brings people together in a cultural sense as story telling is important for passing down information and morals for that culture

(2) the value oral tradition has is changing prospective. this is when a story is interesting to you and makes you think after its been told, about your morality and your view in life sometimes. the point is that storytelling can have a big impact on people because its more three dimensional than reading the story.

(3) a way oral tradition has changed my life in poems and music as those are oral traditions as they speak what they are thinking and i think its interesting as everyone speaks diffrently and theres always someone that is going to be similar but different. oral tradition also shows me how other people see the world and how different our views are to others

1. The oral tradition of storytelling is important to humanity and our cultures, because with out it we wouldn't know the past. Story telling is especially important in cultures because our cultures are already hidden and taken from us enough, without story telling we wouldn't know much about cultures, and why certain cultures are the way they are. 2. Something of value I learned from the story tellers is how connected it makes them feel to their cultures, when you hear stories passed down from generations it makes you feel like you knew your ancestors, and that you are closer to them through their stories. 3. Oral tradition has impacted my life in the sense that its made me feel more connected and close to my family, bonding over past stories has always brought me joy because they're usually funny or have a good lesson to them. So I either end up feeling really happy because of how funny It was or I feel closer to my family because they're trying to prevent me from making mistakes they did in the past. -Ashanti Starks

1. Is the Oral Tradition of Storytelling important to humanity and our cultures? Why or why not?
The oral tradition of storytelling is the foundation of history. Before written records of their daily lives and culture, our ancestors used spoken word with each other to reflect on the past, communicate in the present, and prepare for the future. By adapting speech patterns with each other that they got used to using, language and alphabets-- and therefore writing-- were able to develop. Stories were passed among community members to warn of danger in the wild. And other kinds of stories were passed down to younger generations to help them avoid the mistakes of their parents and grandparents, as well as a method of teaching when formal education didn't exist.

2. Was there anything of value that you learned from these storytellers (videos)?
I learned that, despite cultures across the globe being vastly different from one another, storytelling had many common themes worldwide. Mainly, morals are consistently taught and passed down, no matter what form the story takes. Humanity is connected by the sense of community and goodwill.

3. In what ways has the Oral Tradition impacted your life?
Thanks to the Oral Tradition, I have been able to retain age-old lessons from the Motherland that I was taught when I was a little girl. My family in the Philippine Provinces would tell me many stories that guided my morals, my appreciation for the beauty of nature, of family, my culture and language, etc.

The oral tradition of storytelling is probably the most important form of storytelling, as spoken word is not something that can be destroyed, and although words may change over time, meanings would not. I learned that oral storytelling is one of the many ways we are all connected, even if we may come from different backgrounds and different cultures, oral storytelling is a way we can all connect with one another.
3. The oral tradition of storytelling has affected the way I learn about my past and what those before me have learned over the years. 1. Yes Oral tradition is important to both humanity and our cultures becuase it helps teach the history and stories behind cultures so it wouldn't get lost throughout time. It's passed down through many generations to give a reason of being. 2. I learned that there are millions of stories to tell and listen from many different cultures. Each of them different with their own themes, or even some different stories with the same themes. Point is that each culture have things to pass down in their own way to keep morality. 3. I think oral tradition has impacted my life because I've learned so much from my past with or without the lessons learned from them. It brings me comfort hearing such great stories that were lived by members in my family.

1.the oral tradition of story letting is important to humanity and our cultures because it teaches us about different cultures and experiences. The right way something was done and the mistakes that were made. Sometimes there’s no point to something.
2. From the storytellers I learned and really thought about a part that says “ the words turn into muscle memory”. It made me think how every different story is someone’s point of view
3. So far the oral tradition has not impacted my life. My family lacks storytelling. Everything is basically forgotten because no one spoke out about experiences or anything -stephanie hernandez

listening to a story directly from a person can make the moment a whole lot more special and meaningful. it helps us connect on a more personal level. the interaction between the listener and the story teller can make the moment special as it give both of them a memory to look back on and reinforcing the relationship.

2. yeah, learning something from somebodies point of view makes it a whole lot more special. you learn about a culture directly from the culture in a way.

3. the oral tradition is great. its a special way of bonding with somebody. I believe that words can influence people. when you know how to express yourself to others it can lead to some of the best moments in ones life.

1. Oral tradition keeps cultures alive far beyond their time, most stories we hear are from a period where life was different, so it gives us perspective on how we should live ours.
2. I learned that through symbolism a hard concept to grab is easier to grasp due to a less complicated way of putting things.
3. My father has always told me stories of his home and the way he lived before he came to America. This has caused me to see the views of not only a immigrant but as an American as well , because my father came when he was 19 he has seen a lot of things both good and bad that he can give wisdom on.

1. The oral storytelling is very important because we have to remember where we come from and it is good to know more about it. Being able to know the traditions keeps it going on and on for years.
2. Something that sticks with me is the way a traditions can come to an end. If some person doesn’t keep the traiditon going then it will just end because of them.
3. This impacted not only my life but others as well because it shows us how we got our traditions from and traditions are very important especially to keep them going on for years.
