Takes place 15 days after Chinese New Year, on the first full moon of the New Year. It signifies an end to the spring festivals. It started when Emperor Ming of Han saw that the Buddhist lighted lanterns on the 15th day of the year. So he orders all households to do so. People go out and enjoy the extravagant shows of lanterns and lights and try to solve lantern riddles. Lanterns can be normal, or can be shapes of animals and have pictures painted on them.

It is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. The festival is to remember and honor Qu Yuan, a poet and minister. He killed himself by jumping into the Milou river. The local people took their boats out to try and save him, or at least retrieve the body. That is where the dragon boats come from. They dropped rice balls into the river so the fish would eat the rice and not his body, originating zongzi. Today, people hold boat races and scatter zongzi in the water during the Dragon Boat festival.

It takes place on the 7th day of the 7th month of the lunar calendar. It celebrates the annual meeting of a cowherd and a weaver girl. Their love was forbidden so they had to stay on either side of the silver river. But once a year, Magpies would make a bridge so the couple could meet. Tanabata is also known as China's Valentine's day. During Tanabata tree and bamboo is set up so a passerby can write a wish on a piece of paper and put it on the tree. Couples give each other flowers and chocolate just like in the western Valentines day.
