There is an infinite hole. This is realistically impossible because of high temperatures closer to the Earth's core and hard materials that people would have to dig through. At the end of the book, a man hears a voice coming from the sky. Eventually everything will fall from the sky, which is also not possible because of the laws of gravity

The pebble might represent continuity and never ending life. The pebble returned at the end of the book after being introduced in the beginning. This hints that all the things that were thrown into the hole might rain back down upon the city like a real life rain of death. The pebble symbolizes the consequences for our actions.

I think it is necessary to start the story by saying that the village has been greatly damaged by a storm. I think this because the hole might be a sinkhole. It being a sinkhole might explain why it is so deep and why it takes who-knows-how-long for all the stuff to come back.

I think that the hole was quite odd. When the villagers threw stuff in the hole it just disappeared, but at the end of the story we read that the first two things were put into the hole fall out of the sky. I think that everything that was put into the hole will eventually fall out of the sky and there will be chaos because of the things people see falling out of the hole, and that the land will become toxic because of the nuclear remains that were thrown in it.

I think the hole was some kind of worm-hole, that everything dropped in it falls from the sky, like a neverending loop. In this worm-hole, its kind of in a circle.

Yes, I think it was essential to start the story after a storm. There were multiple ways to start the story, but one of the only ones that would make sense is to start it with a storm. The storm could've caused the hole, but if the story started out a different way, the hole would be unexplained. I think that the hole was caused by the storm.

All of the people portrayed in the story are symbolic of different types of people in the real world. Hoshi was trying to depict how some people act and face against situations and hardships. For example, the scientists pretend to know what the hole is, and in real life some people pretend to know what they are doing.

The hole is not like everything that will ever be on Earth. The hole is too deep for anything that will exist because the material in the core of the Earth gets to dense. This would maybe be possible with big construction equipment but that would have been noticable to the people in the village. The author ties the ending of the story back to the beginning by ending the story back to one of the first parts. At the beginning they drop a pebble into the hole, and at the end construction workers hear a yell and see a pebble fly by. It shows the other side of the hole. In the Giver it has a similar ending. At the end of the Giver, Jonas comes across the house where people were celebrating Christmas, which is a memory he received from the Giver. They both connect the end to an earlier part of the book. I don't like the ending because it shows that the story is a cycle that keeps going.

I think the larger picture Hoshi is making is everything comes back to you, good or bad. We find this out at the end of the book when we finally hear the, "Hey-y! Come on ou-t!" echo and see the pebble come back. However, this means all the nuclear waste will come back, creating even more damage for the village.

I think that the characters are all male because of the time period that the book was written in. In the time of the book, women did not have as many rights to what men had been doing, often being servants for their husbands.

Another way this text relates to us today is that it shows us to be careful of our actions, because they will always come back to us. I think everything the people dump into the hole symbolizes their problems and the hole symbolizes ignoring their problems. At first, it isn't so bad ignoring your problems. However, the longer you put them off, they can come back to bite you, like how everything that has been dumped into the hole will come back out and wreak havoc.

One reason I think that every character is a man is because the story symbolizes life and different people (the way they act), and since 'man' is a word used to represent women and men in different texts ("one small step for man" includes women), the men in the story also represent women as well.

I think that the author ties the ending of the story back to the beginning because the story is about realization. Throughout the story, the characters are not really thinking about what they are doing and at the end all the things they have done come back to bite them. This correlates with the Giver because of the sled memory. The sled is in the beginning of the book and the very end, just like our story. I did like this ending because of the moral of the story. The lesson of think before you do is so important in our lives.

I think that the hole might have been a failed underground bunker for a war. The military might have used their tools to dig a hole too deep, and when they threw somthing down it to see the bottom of the hole, it fell out of the sky. The bunker might have been abandoned. I think that the author ties the story back to the ending because it shows that every action has repercussions to it like getting rid of harmful waste deep supposedly deep underground. When the pebble came back to the surface it showed how the rest of the waste was going to come back up soon. I like these types of endings because to me they seem fulfilling and have so much more meaning.

I think that the reason all the characters were men is because at the time this story was published women didn'’t have as many rights as women. Maybe the men were outside working while the women were inside taking care of the house. Maybe the men probably didn’t want the women knowing about the hole, so they didn’t tell the women about the hole and that’s why there are no female characters in the story.

If we were to dump all of our problems in one hole that we didn’t know where it went, future generations would have consequences for our actions. A way the story relates to us is that everything you do will eventually come back to you in some way. In the story we read that the people throw a bunch of things in the hole, ranging from harmless things like a pebble to nuclear remains. In the beginning, a man leans over the hole an and shouts “Hey—y come on ou—t” and another person throws a pebble in it. Those are the first two things that go in the hole. At The end of the story a man is resting on a construction site and he hears someone shout, “Hey—y, come on ou—t” but there is no one there. Then a pebble falls out of the sky and tumble across the ground, but he doesn’t see it. I think this means that everything they threw in the hole is going to eventually come down from the sky back to them. So like in the story, everything that we do will somehow come back to us.
