DEAD TO YOU BY: LISA MCMANN

I have chosen the book Dead To You by Lisa McMann and the first reason why I chose the book was because it's kind of like a thriller even though horror is my favorite genre. The second reason why I picked this book was because of the author. Lisa McMann writes amazing horror/thriller stories and every time I read one of her books I'm automatically hooked to them.
The book is actually really good so far. I didn't think I would like it because of the topic. Dead To You is about a boy who's brought back to his family after being abducted for 9 years, he's reunited with his family and has to face a new challenges because he has to adapt. I love the main character Ethan, he's an introvert like me and I can relate to him sometimes. The plot of the story is really good too so far, it changes back and forth from being good to bad. I also like his little sister Gracie because she has her cute and evil moments. She has an adorable lisp. When she tries to say her brother's name she says Efan instead of Ethan. The book is also kinds dramatic and romantic at the same time because he has a crush on the girl he's been with his whole life and their relationship is really adorable. Ethan has his ups and downs, and when he gets nervous he gets stressed which makes his body shut down and he'll eventually go unconscious.
In other books I've read there are similarities. The books that I choose have a character that goes through something traumatic and ends up in a place that he/she isn't usually used too. They also end up with a partner that they've known for a while and end up falling in love. All of the books I've read have that similarity.

WAKE BY: LISA MCMANN

I started reading a new book and it’s called Wake and it’s by Lisa McMann. I chose this book because it was another book from Lisa’s series and I’m just obsessed with everything that she writes. So far, I absolutely love it, the whole plot is coming along very well. When dreams aren’t your own, it can be frightening in the beginning, but having a power such as hers can be a gift as well. Janie is who I’m talking about and she was born with these powers. So far, the book has a unique set up. McMann uses time and dates as her new chapters and she also uses flashbacks which is cool. I also like experiencing what she experiences because she can be in peoples dreams. My favorite dream experience of hers was when she was in her classmates dream and he was a football player. I guess since he had a game that day he was nervous, so when he dozed off in class his dreams setting was on the football field. When he went out on the football field; he was naked and everyone started laughing at him. I thought that was kind of funny. Even though that can happen, bad things can happen as well. When she’s not mentally there her body on the outside still does its regular thing. For example, when she was driving in her car, someone in a nearby went to sleep, so she automatically had transferred into their dream while still on the road. I don’t know how she did it, but she managed through because she remembered what handles to pull to stop the car. This book really wasn’t similar to the others I’ve read, but one thing that’s the same is the main character has some sort of special ability.

I'm still reading Wake by Lisa Mcmann, I'm sad because I'm almost done, but I can't wait to see what the next book has in store for me. But anyways, in the book, there has been a ton of drama with the main character (Janie) and her boyfriend/Ex/friend/enemy Cabel. I just don't know how she still stays with this guy even though they're at each other's throats 24/7, but not literally. I just think that if she has trust issues with Cabel, she should just end the shaky relationship with him, but if she ends it, she won't have a friend like him anymore. Janie and Cabel have so many similarities, they have the same dead-beat parents that have alcoholic issues and they're both in the lower class, I just think that having someone who goes through what you also go through is the right person to spend your entire life with.
I don't know if I've said this or not but their drama is also entertaining. I know that I said that she should just break up with him, but If she does I won't have any drama and I LOVE drama. One of the main trust issues that she has with Cabel is when he goes from Janie to another girl named Shay who he hooks up with from time to time. Now I would be upset too if I had a boyfriend that was with another girl while he's with me. Double crosser😒. But anyways, I'm just excited to finish this book cause I would have finished 2 books already, so I'll be very happy, I'm making great progress.

I finished my 2nd book Wake a week ago and the book was very intriguing. I had some of its high and low moments, and what I mean by that is that it had very interesting parts at times and then at other times it was just flat out boring. I need action and sometimes it didn’t happen. The ending was nothing like I expected it to be, the last few lines were displeasing and I wanted more. Having an ending where Janie and Cable are stuck in a place during a mission and being hopeless and not knowing what to do would have been great. Leaving me with a last page like that would cause me to think and anticipate on what’s going to happen next.

I have started reading a new book and it's called Fade. I don't know why she used Fade for this one, but I'll find out soon after I get further into my reading. So far, I don't know how I feel about it yet, I'm new to reading it. But, if I had to say something, I would say that I love how the two main characters show affection for each other. I know that in my last blog that I wrote I said that I didn't like their relationship. Well I lied. I love them. Their job together has made them grow closer together.

I hope that in this book Janie and Cable go on many crime and undercover missions. Seeing them go through dangerous missions will make the plot even more captivating then it already is. As this will goes on, someone is going to have to be captured or get into bigger trouble, it just must happen and I'm waiting till it happens.

I have finished Fade and it was excellent. It's probably my favorite so far. The plot was very interesting and suspenseful. The book its self was a roller coaster, it has its good and bad moments, but boy did it follow through.
Everything that could have been unexpected had happened. I learned a lot of things that I should be needing to know, and a lot of things that I shouldn't know.
In the book, Janie and Cabel were assigned to an uncover mission, the mission was to expose the perverted teachers in their school. Now that's a shocker because that shouldn't happen at all. Janie was the "bait" and she had to get close to teachers to find out who they really are, but the thing it, Janie was prepared for this situation and I do not know how she did it. She's just straight up fearless because I know that that had to be unsettling for her and for Cabel since she's his girlfriend.
Long story short, Janie ended up exposing not one, but 3 perverted teachers at a party to where she went undercover. Her and some other girls were affected by them and will have to go to court to testify against them, so that's going to be very interesting to read about in the next book and I know there's going to be drama.
I also learned something very terrible about my character, I pity her so much. Since Janie was born with the ability to she into others dreams at any time at any moment, its going to have many consequences. They're so bad that they could ruin her life or can potentially end her life as well. I just hope that nothing tragic happens to her in this last book that I'm about to read.

Gone By: Lisa Mcmann

I started a new book October 15th and it’s called Gone and this book is the final book in the trilogy of Wake. The story has surprised me with a certain event that the main character Janie is going through. Janie has known that she has a father somewhere out there in the world and thinks that she’ll never see him ever in her life. Times changed and new things popped up. It turns out that her father wasn’t far from her at all, he only lived a few miles from her and her alcoholic mother. The only moment that she gets to see her father is in the hospital, he’s in coma and on his death bed. She was having mixed feelings about the whole situation and didn’t know whether she should sympathize for this man that has been nonexistent her whole entire life. This can be used as real-world example today because there are kids who have not seen either their mother or father for a period in their life. Once the child grows up and can have a job and make a living, that’s when the dead-beat parents want to show up and ask them for help or take care of them since their sick or just being greedy. It’s sad how people nowadays are being treated like this, it’s wrong in so many ways.

Now for my reaction to this whole situation. I feel kind of relieved that Janie finally gets to see her father, so she can know where she came from. But it’s sad how she was disappointed when she first sees him. He was nothing like she would have imagined.

Daughters Unto Devils by: Amy Lukavics

I started a new book and it’s called Daughters unto devils. At first, I was unsure if whether I should or shouldn’t read this book, the title itself was just a turn off for me because of the word devil. Once I started reading the first few pages of the book I was immediately immersed. As I read further and further into the book, the plot thickened.

The story takes place back probably in the early 1700’s. The main character lives in a very religious family, anything and everything that she does has to be holy. Now that you have a sense of who the family is, let me tell you about the parts in the book that affected me the most.

This book is very morbid and when you start reading this book, expect the unexpected. In one part, my character had sinned and she didn’t want her family to find out. She’s been seeing a boy that lives near her, and in the Christian faith you’re not supposed to do anything intimate until you’re married. Well as you can see where I’m going with this they didn’t wait. Later, she finds out that she’s pregnant and she’s scared out of her mind. If her parents find out, especially her father, she’ll be disowned and sent away from her home. I was scared for her, she’s way too young to be going through this all alone. I forgot to mention that her so called boyfriend left her after he found out she was with child. In the end, nobody got to figure out that she was pregnant because she had a miscarriage. I felt so bad for her, she lost a part of herself that day and was never the same after that.

Last week I finished Daughters unto devils and it was amazing. It scared me so much that I wasn't able to fall asleep properly for a few days. I'm still affected today!
But overall the book was full of unexpected moments that caused me to have many reactions. I mentioned before in my last blog that my character had a miscarriage. My character was born into a strict christian household, so that mean't that since she had a baby before marriage she sinned. But what does this have to do with reactions? Well the author gave really vivid details of when she was having her miscarriage and it was DISGUSTING but very emotional at the same time. Another part of the book that gave me an unexpected reaction was when I found out that her baby sister and her father had been devoured. Yes, devoured. And from what you may ask? Well from the pink farm animals we call pigs.My stomach churned when Amanda (The main character) found her father and baby sisters jawbones, teeth, and clothes lying in the mud inside the pigs pen.

I started reading a new book Called There's someone inside your house and I really like it so far. I haven't gotten too far in the book, but I know it has good stuff in store. But, the problem that my character is facing is she's living in a house that's haunted and in her school there's a killer who slays students in the most inhumane way. But I can't wait to see what happens, i'm very excited.

I currently started reading the book There’s someone inside your house and it’s really boring so far. The horror hasn’t begun yet and that was the reason why I picked it.

But anyways, I’ve been thinking and I think that I’ve came up with something. The girl in my book has a haunting past and I thought that she was really being haunted by a spirt, but I think that it’s by an actual person that she knows. Like I said in the past blog, the girl’s town is being struck by mysterious and gruesome deaths of students in her school. Her student body thinks that it’s this boy that never talks to anyone and is so secluded to himself, and I believe that he has been doing the murders so far as well. She’s grown very fond of him and they’ve grown very close to each other.

I’ve noticed that he’s been retrieving info about her, and that’s very strange. If she hasn’t told him anything, how does he know this already? I think that he’s been stalking her and I believe that he’s the person in her house.

Now, this is a different topic than the few paragraphs before. I’ve been very shocked by my main characters way of treating her grandmother. She’s Hawaiian and she moved from Hawaii and back into the united states to live with her grandmother. Her parents either couldn’t take care of her, so I guess they gave her to her grandmother. I just thought that this was very sad because they just gave her up.

Since she’s a teen she acts kind of rebellious from time to time and she can be very disrespectful. She was on the phone with a boy and her grandmother doesn’t allow that type of behavior in her house. Her grandmother continued to ask her who she was talking to and she lied so that she wouldn’t find out. I just thought that this was very disrespectful because her grandmother is the one that’s taking care of her and she should respect that and be very grateful because her granny didn’t have to do it.

I’ve still been reading “There’s someone inside your house” and it’s been really good. What has happened recently has been so shocking, I can’t believe what has just happened to the characters in my book!

Makani (the main character) and Ollie’s (also the main character) relationship has become more of something and it’s actually very admirable. I never thought of Ollie as a good person, I believed what that students in the book said about him was true. I believed that he was a dangerous and self-absorbed guy that does nothing, but gets in trouble, but I was wrong.

The problem that has been recurring in my book is death. Students from Makani’s school are being targeting by a killer. Three characters have already died from the murderer and they were killed in terrible ways. One was the school’s star football player, he was stabbed in the abdomen and the top of his skull was cut wide open. This set fear in the town and nobody knows whether they might be the next one.

But anyways, Makani is scared out of her mind, she doesn’t know if someone else is going to end up dead or if it might be her or Ollie. Later, Makani and Ollie are at her house and Makani feels uneasy because everything in her home has been moved (this is the sign of the killer). The killer ends up being in her home and all chaos breaks loose. Makani ends up getting sliced in her arm and her grandmother ends up being seriously stabbed in her lower abdomen. All of this had me so scared, I thought that both weren’t going to make it, but I’m glad that they fought to stay alive.

This week’s reading has had me dumbfounded, I can’t believe what I’m reading. I want to keep on reading, but at the same time I don’t because my feelings keep on being messed with. At some points in the book there will be times where nothing extravagant happens. Like in particular, Makani is still visiting her grandmother after the terrible incident they were in. Including Ollie. I don’t want to be rude, but I just don’t care, I don’t want to keep on reading and they’re still at the hospital, I want to see the action, and boy did I get action!

I’ve finally now why my character big secret that she’s been hiding from everyone. Her name isn’t really Makani Young, I don’t know what it is, but that isn’t it. She has a police record and she’s been in the news for assaulting one of her varsity teammates on the swim team. The thing is, I believe that the assault that she did was pure self-defense. Long story short, she cut off a large amount of her best friends’ hair while they were doing challenges while getting drunk, which also led to her friend nearly drowning. This thing that she did didn’t stay in Hawaii, it also followed her back to Alaska and the killer in her town found out about her little secret. I now know who the killer is and it’s someone from her school that’s a loner. He targets the people that have dirt on their name. He didn’t get to kill Makani, but he just recently killed another person from her school who’s the pastor’s son, and let me tell you, he died in the most horrible way.

Over the break I finished Dear Martin and it was amazing. This book was probably my 3rd favorite out of all of the books I've read so far. I can really understand what goes on in this story ya know since I'm African American, but I'm not an African American male, so I can't relate to what he has to go through on a day to day basis. I even wrote an essay over one of the issues Justyce faced throughout his last year of high school, and that was the usage of the N word by other races.
I picked this book because It was about a young African American boy, and this year I'm trying to read more books related to my race. Another reason was because the cover was also very intriguing.
When I read a paragraph from the book last semester during one of our assignments in class, I was intrigued by it. A young black boy writing to the one and only Martin Luther King is really inspiring. I've never heard of someone take the time to write to someone like that even though he's dead.
