I believe citizen journalism can be considered "the oxygen of Democracy" because, the public having a guaranteed source of visual evidence that they can share to a social media platform and could potentially go viral, can bring awareness to their situation they have posted about.  Citizen journalism and the role of the media unites people into feeling like they are actually doing something and actually making a change, even if it's a simple retweet, like, share, or comment.
