I chose this "magazine" cover because it presents several concepts we've covered in class this semester, such as confidence interval, p-value, and double-blinding. Also, I like how it presents an epidemiologist because we're pretty much disease detectives! (short description)

I chose this image because it displays some of the important concepts discussed in class and also some of my favorite topics. I really like how there is a quote from John Snow, a 2x2 table, and a distribution, which was one of the topics recently covered under biological variation from the Validity of tests lesson. Also, the epidemiologist in a Tyvek suit looks super awesome.

I chose this image because it shows the main objectives of epidemiology such as identifying the etiology or cause of disease, determining the extent of the disease, studying the diseases' history and prognosis, and evaluating both current and new preventative measures. I really love the catchy title and drawing of the comic strip, because it shows how epidemiologists coming to the rescue during times of outbreaks! So cool!<3

I chose this image because it includes John Snow and he is considered as one of the "fathers of modern epidemiology." This image also shows him inspecting the water pipe that caused many people to be infected with cholera, which was one of the examples we learned about in the beginning of the semester that portrayed epidemiology.

I chose this image because it highlighted a topic we discussed on the second week of this semester. Epidemiology has to do with how disease spreads and the factors that cause a disease to spread, which is what this image is depicting. It explains that you should boil water before every use, which can prevent you from contracting cholera. By drinking water that has not been boiled you become exposed. So, once I saw the word "Cholera" I immediately thought about epidemiology.

I chose this image because this is showing one of the study designs that we had covered being a cohort study. We are grouping up people based on their age. Possibly showing if a certain disease occur to these groups based on their age groups from the clinical trials that there are about to sign up for.

I chose this image because it displays a case study that associates pretzels and alcohol, and how both of these directly related. The "cause-or-coincidence?" caption reminds me of one of the topics we covered in class - Associate to Causation. The question that came to mind as I read the caption was "Does the exposure cause the outcome? Epidemiology can help verify if this case is true by measuring the association with relative risk or odds ratio. I wonder if this association is actually true!

Epidemiologists are an important aspect to society and public health. Prior to this class i did not understand how important Epidemiology is. Epidemiologist keep surveillance on diseases and also by identifying the risk factors for diseases. I chose this image because I feel as though Epidemiologist don't get the praise in society that they deserve. Without them, we would not know the cause of outbreaks and diseases. They're main focus is to protect the heath of every individual in society, we (as a society) should identify them as disease control super heroes!!

I chose this video because of the important content conveying the meaning of epidemiology. This movie "And the Band Played on" made a significant impact on me and since then I become interested in the epidemiology itself. Epidemiologist Don Francis (Matthew Modine) learns of an increased rate of death among gay men in urban areas. The startling information leads him to begin investigating the outbreak, which is ultimately identified as AIDS. This movie reminded me of the epidemic we tackled in class and how epidemiology is so important identifying the risk factors which may represent critical control points of certain diseases.

I chose this image because epidemiology is the study of people. Epidemiologists study diseases all over the world. They look for the causes, how it started, and how to control or cure the disease. In class we learned how to identify different study designs. We are able to learn about this because Epidemiologist have had the chance to study disease and create study designs for years now.

This is a photoset from a television show called Community. I chose this image because not only does it pertain to epidemiology but it's also pretty funny. In class we spoke a lot about confidence intervals, margins of error, and that having a large sample size is essential to receive accurate results. In this picture they talk about how they have a 98% margin of error which is alarmingly high until it's explained that they only spoke to two people.

I chose the McDonald's logo because of the rising obesity rates around the world, especially in the U.S. Obesity has become a serious issue within epidemiological studies and one of the factors of it derive from fast food. Everybody knows McDonald's and how unhealthy it is to eat it, yet people still do. The chain fast food restaurant can be located on a global scale so it is safe to say through epidemiological research and analysis, McDonald's can be a contributing factor to obesity.

I chose the this image because a large portion of this epidemiology course, we spent time identifying different types of research studies. This comic specifically refers to an ecological study(correlation study) that measures how correlated the exposure is to the outcome of a specific group; typically geographic location. The comedic aspect of this image is mimicking researchers common mistake and the fault that usually happens when conducting ecological studies. Ecological studies are at a disadvantage because some people make the mistake that ecological studies can prove cause and effect, when it can not.

I chose this image because it reminds me of the lessons that we learned in class within the past semester. A large part of epidemiology is its prevalence and incidence. As healthcare professionals, it is our to find out where the the incidence or "exposure" stems from, and how to limit recurrence. When I saw this image, I was immediately reminded of Epidemiology. This bathtub represents how easy it is for the prevalence of diseases to increase.

This cartoon reminds me of epidemiology and the importance it holds on disease surveillance. Various links and factors are connected to diseases and/or conditions on a daily basis. There is research and trials conducted in regards to outbreaks and illnesses that harm human health. The spin wheel drawn in the cartoon makes factors of diseases seem random and unreliable. "According to a report released today..." There is always a new finding or report presented in the media. This cartoon can be interpreted in many ways. For me, this reminds me of the slight disadvantages in media and epidemiology.

I chose this image because it illustrates that Illness and health are only the tip of an iceberg. To understand their causes, one must look below the surface. Icebergs reveal only about one-tenth of their mass above the water. The other nine-tenths remains submerged. This is why they are such a nightmare in navigation, and why they make such an appropriate metaphor in considering one's state of wellness. Your current state of health, be it one of disease or vitality, is just like the tip of the iceberg. This is the apparent part - what shows. If you don't like it, you can attempt to change it, do things to it, chisel away at an unwanted condition.

I chose this image because I think it accurately depicts what Epidemiology truly is. It involves research on the studies of how disease is distributed in human populations and the factors that influence or determine this distribution. This photo shows the variety of places we see epidemiology around the world as its main goal is to prevent diseases. We see it through outbreaks, experiments, in practice, research studies, and in even the entertainment world. Essentially, we see epidemiology everywhere.

I chose this picture because it represents clinical trials done in case-control studies and cohort studies. It shows that the sample is randomly divided into two groups which each get a different treatment and over time they compare the incidence rate. This is one of the most popular studies done to test the hypothesis of the cause of the disease and how it may develop over time.
