the start of new bonds with people

By discussing the topic of skateboarding with my friends, I was able to learn a lot about the sport and even started to gain new friends from taking this on. This ended up making my covid years a lot more tolerable because I not only had people by my side, but also a hobby that brought us all together

downtown experience

Going downtown for the first time in the summer of 2021 to acquire my first skateboard (which I actually have til this day). This whole shop was intimidating with how many choices there were and what boards were used for what

first time for everything

Once I actually got the board, I was terrified of falling and later hurting myself, but with enough time and patience I was able to really start to regain my balance. This balance was not only for skateboarding, but also allowing balance in my social and academic life

finally moving forward

For the longest time, I was holding on to a fence to maintain my balance and decided to let go. Shockingly enough, I did not fall and the euphoria I felt in that moment I knew I wanted to continue this for awhile

From the knowledge I acquired earlier on, I now was able to practice a few tricks and feel comfortable doing so. Some of these tricks included: strawberry milkshake, tic tac and even an olly (which I am still trying to master)

One of the major benefits throughout this whole journey was growing closer to my childhood best friend, Bia, who is in the photo above. We decided to go to a local park together and I was teaching her the basics of skating.

Now, I am expanding where I skate and it is in the neighboorhood of my beach house in the Outer Banks. The roads there were pretty smooth and was the perfect summer activity

Now, me currently, even though I do not skateboard as much as I used to, the impact of skateboarding made me form new and stronger bonds with people I already knew and taught me a bunch of new skills one of them being: to never give up no matter how impossible it may seem
