Frederick Douglass a slave that escaped from his plantation. Frederick Douglass wrote a book called the "North Star", it recalled his memories and details of him when he was a slave. Many people rose up against slavery after reading the book of the harsh reality of the slaves living in the Plantation. Sojourner Truth was also a famous abolitionist since she helped former slaves escape the slave plantations. She helped them by letting them escape through a series of tunnels and railroads connecting all of the U S A. William Lloyd Garrison also helped show the harsh reality of slavery by publishing the newspaper called the liberator. Another movement later came to be called the transdentilist. It was the belief and feelings and goodness of God. A leading transcendentalist was Henry David Thoreau. He advocated that people to follow civil disobedience which was were people refused to follow certain laws or pay taxes in non violent way also know as a peaceful form of political protesting. Henry Thoreau did the exact thing when he refused to pay his taxes. Washing ton was also famous for writing the legend of sleepy hollow and also the writer of RIP Van Winkle. Mathew Brady was famous for his photographs of the civil war.
