But, her brother is there, taking her spot. Her brother tells him that she's sick and he gets suspicious. later on,  a few people are looking into a mirror where the girl the main character likes, and a boy is. They are examining them. So, what happens is they are trying to figure out if she has powers or not, and how strong they are. So, they cut off they boys finger, and she uses magic to fix it. Then, they cut of his hand, and she fixes it, and lastly, they cut off his arm; and she fixes it. They are trying to stop her throughout the book. She gets stronger and basically want to kill everyone. He takes the car home and she stays in it for hours and hours and hours. The kidnappers daughter, Darra, found out she was there and gave her food . Eventually the girl, Wren, escaped and to a little farm not too far from their house, She called her parents and they came to get her. A  few years later, they both ended up going to the same camp. Darra thinks that Wren told the police where the house was, and the police found the house and that's what got her dad into jail (what really happened is a girl at the farm saw which way she came from and told the police. At camp Darra was avoiding and being rude to Wren, but Wren was protecting her from the other girls that were bullying her. His dad left for work early and his mom went to work after they got on the bus. His mom packed cupcakes for his birthday and on the bus the school bully smashed the cupcakes. He told the teacher, she said they were worthless now. That afternoon, the teacher let them out early and told the boy and his sister to take the bus to their mom's job. The mom wouldn't tell them what was happening and they had no idea that the twin towers had just been hit. The book switches perspectives to the man in the white shirt. He was getting in line for coffee when he heard a huge boom! come from above. People were screaming and running. Sirens everywhere and the man went up to see what was going on. So, the boy finds a dog, returns it to the owners neighbor. You find out the neighbors son works at the twin towers and so does the dad. Soon, the dad comes home, but the neighbors son doesn't. Just days before the wall was built, the father and one son went to West berlin to find work and a place to stay, and planned to come back and get his daughter, wife, and other son. That planned didn't work because they started to build the wall and no one could get in or out. So, the family had to fight their way trough Berlin because the apartment was bugged and the police already had a grudge against them because the dad was part of the Resistance. The mom leaves to check on them grandmother. The sister, Gerta, and her brother decide that they need to build a tunnel because the dad send a drawing and they think it's a sign of where they should dig. They dig a tunnel, but have to pretend they are starting a garden because they are so dirty. The mom comes back, and at first disapproves of the tunnel, then likes the idea. They dig and they meet the dad on the other side. The   guy doesn't believe that she is the stone keeper, but she gets to prove it when the elf king's minions come to attack the bar. She protects her self with the stone> The guy then believes her and helps them get to the island. The run into many problems, like a hug storm, some flying monsters, and an enemy. They make, it and an ongoing problem is the stone trying to overpower her. She meets the other elder stone keepers and gets to the city. The dad studied fairy tales and folk tales and came to study a story about a person who came to the city, 100's of years ago, and promised to get rid of the rat problem with a fair pay. The town agreed, but didn't pay him. He stole all the children and cursed the town. Some believe, some did not. One day, the kids were at home and a ton of rats had clogged the vents, so the air conditioning didn't work, The father called the exterminator and the exterminator made the dad sign paper that said in fine print that the exterminator could take the kids. The exterminator wasn't reallly an exterminator, but you'll figure out who he was. The kids fall into a trance-like sleep and wake up in a odd village. They soon figure out that this was where the peddler took those kids years ago. The journey far and forth to find the tower that will help them leave the place. Did they get out?
