         <description><![CDATA[<div>We don't see a huge glimpse into what life was like in Liz's house, but enough to know that perhaps she was ignored as a child. The story opens with a description of Liz's papa: ''a red-haired, unshaven, untidy man sat in a rocking chair by a window.'' O. Henry found these details so important that he refers to them multiple times, and never calls the man by name. <br><br>Something that becomes known is that at the end of the story after Lizzie has died. In many ways by placing the focus on Lizzie’s father Henry plays the role of responsibility.<br><br> Lizzie’s life has turned bad because her father didn't spend time with her when she was little.Maybe Lizzie’s father has been a selfish man who had cared more about himself than Lizzie </div>]]></description>
